Replace gas cap but first check for rust around rim of filler tube where gas cap makes contact with tube. if there is rust clean it off and replace the cap.then you need to clear the code in the computer to see if this was the problem.. corrosion on the filler tube will cause a small lesk in the evaporative system which corresponds to the 442 code

Check engine light came on is still on in my 2002 chev venture warner bros ed.Van P0446 code

Evaporative Emission Vent System Performance. the emissions system on these ventures suck! good luck. It basically means the fumes aren't going where they are supposed to be going and if you live in a county or state that requires emissions testing, it will not pass until you get it fixed. other than that you probably wont see any other problems, you might smell gas but like i said those are just fumes not going to the right place.

Error codes P0442 & P0446 Likely fixes?

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
  • Other small leak in EVAP system
  • Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible Solutions With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions With a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

Since you are getting both of these codes the most likely problem will be a faulty Vent Valve.

NOPE CANT ERASE CODES UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED OR THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT SOON WILL STAY ON. CODE PO441 - EVAPORATIVE EMISSION EVAP SYSTEM INCORRECT FLOW DETECTED.CHECK INTAKE VACUUM HOSE CONNECTIONS AT THE EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE.IF ALL IS GOOD.THE EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE COULD BE BAD. Po442 code 1999 chevy lumina car 3.1 engine

Code P0442: EVAP Emission Control System Leak (Small)
This may be caused by something as simple as a failed gas cap; if the gasket is no longer tight, you may be sucking in air.

P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit.
The following are descriptions of all Evaporative possible codes:

P0442 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)
P0443 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0444 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open
P0445 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit
P0447 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Open
P0448 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Shorted
P0449 Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit
P0450 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch
P0451 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Range/Performance
P0452 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Low
P0453 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch High
P0454 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Intermittent
P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)

P0457 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (fuel cap loose/off)
P0458 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Low
P0459 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit High
---
At least the cap isn't loose for the gas tank.

I would clear the code with an OBD-II Scanner 'erase code' button, and see how long it takes for it to come back.

Trouble Code P0442

Hi:
This code is an Evaporative emission leak code. it is often caused by a loose or worn out gas cap.
To fix, try this:

remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

2006 chev malibu p0446 code

You need to find out which evap control solinoid is not working the best way is to take it to a shop and have them run a smoke test through the system todetermine which valve or valves are inop,or if there is a break in the hoses.
