Check the alternator and the condition of the drive belt and at the same time before you do this check the solenoid on the passanger side up against the flywall make sure the battery terminals are clean you can use baking soda and pour water on it to clean the terminals off

only a volt meter works, seems is zero .
a rested charged battery and (warm temps) is 12.6vdc.
you crank it, (not in Klondike?) and battery holds above 11v. cranking
does it? if not the battery is bad, or not charged.
jumper cables to other car fix it?
barrowed battery from wifes good car fix it?
ok are battery cables cleaned, the lugs.
you hot wire the starter (keys in pocket)
starter works (engine dont start for safety here)
it fails to crank, starter is bad.
it cranks, that means the key line is dead.

if key line fails, did you wiggle the shifter cranking, , do so.
if that starts car the PRNDL switch is bad. on trans side.

I put in new battery and now it wont start it says check gages

They always say that when key on queued, when you try to start the car what happens then do you hear a click and the lights won't come back on? My wife's car did the same thing and I thought it was the starter for the longest until I figured out it was the battery cable terminals weren't connected very well even though they seemed tight. Try turning the terminals with your hand until it is tighter and give it another try.

2000 jeep cherokee wont start. i turn the key to crank, but all i get is one click and then nothing. i thought it was the starter so i had that replaced and i had the same results. thought it was a battery...

If the starter seems good and the battery all that is important is to check if there is power to the starter when the solenoid clicks. you need to check this before anything can be confirmed.
Check the leads, the ground of the engine and the starter solenoid.

2005 hyundai accent wont start

try this? remove all spark plugs and dry them out use a heat source ie gas hob? if wife permits?? then spin engine over to clear cyl/s and refit warmed up plugs ? if you have wd40 or ignition damp start? spray all ign coils/leads electrical connections/ or see if wife will let you use hair dryer and carefully blow ign leads/coils etc then try restart ? this may be a simple case of damp plugs/ignition and engine/plugs are flooded from dampness trying to start after snow ? wish you luck please update on progress
