How to replace dif seals


Carefully mark the nut and tip of shaft with a chisel for alignment, and count the number of exposed threads, It is important to get the nut back to the exact same tightness. Then use air gun to remove nut, remove yoke, carefully pry out old seal, use a thin coat of sealant on outer edge of new seal, clean case of oil, use small amount of grease on inside lip of new seal and install seal with deep socket of correct size. Reinstall yoke, nut, and tighten to correct # of threads showing and align chisel marks. refill axle wiyh correct fluid.

Transmission rear seal instalation


remove the drive shaft ( tail shaft) lever out the old seal. put sealer around new seal and fit back in extension housing. Use something that is the same size as the outer edge of the seal and tap it in flush with the edge of the transmission housing. Expect some oil to drain out when the tail shaft and seal is removed

My engine stalls?


The crank sensor is located behind the crank pulley on the 3.8 liter. The crank pulley must first be removed. A 15/16" socket, three very long 8 x 1.0 bolts (pretty sure that is the size, some large washers, and a crank pulley pulley will be required.

With the crank pulley removed mark the bracket where the old crank sensor is located so that the new sensor can be placed in exactly the same position. Failure to do this will result in the new sensor and/or the crank pulley being severely damaged.

Then it's as simple as removing the old sensors and installing the new one.

I need to replace my u-joints. I was just wondering if its possible to do it my self? I don't have any experience doing this. And how to replace them?


All U joints are the same only the size varies by application. You can do this, but watch the video clip at this LINK

Universal joint replacement


first remove drive shaft most likely to be 10mm bolts. if a vise is available use it to press out the old joint after removing keepers with snap ring pliers.if no vise is present use an old socket and hammer to remove joint.

How do you remove u joint?


I have done it many,many times and i will tell you how i do it!!!! it will take a little patience and muscle and a few tools.... #1. once you have the drive shaft out and out from under the car/truck you will need a couple pieces of 2x4 or 2x6 or 2x8 ect.to set the shaft on,but let the yolk/shaft(end of shaft with u-joint) hang off the end of the 2x4.... #2. you will need to pull the c-clips/retaining clips off the u-joint caps(some are on top of cap and some on bottom).... #3. next you will need an old socket that will fit on top of the cap ,but smaller than the yolk/shaft cap opening so it will go thru fixed circle holding cap... #4. now for that patience and muscle part. using a 5-pound mini sledge hammer(small hammer will work also) and the socket,hold the socket on top of the u-joint cap (don't matter which side)and beat the cap down until the cap on the other side falls out( depending on how old they are it can take many ,many hits to remove),then flip it over and using the socket put it on the u-joint shaft and beat the opposite side cap out.then you will be able to remove the two pieces... #5. repeat same process for the shaft/yolk side... To install the new u-joint carefully pull 2 caps off (opposite ends)and run tape around other 2 (to keep from falling off) insert new u-joint shafts into yolk/shaft and lightly tap new cap in one side then lightly tap other cap in ( make sure the needle bearings in cap are standing up and have not fell out or over in cap) and repeat again for the other 2 caps.....sounds like alot but once you get one cap out it gets easyer with each cap....and thats how you change a u-joint....good luck...yz-maniac.

How do I replace a U joint in a 2005 f350


The old school way is to drop the drive shaft, paint or mark one side of the yoke for reassembly reasons and then do the following.

1.There should be snap clips on the bearing caps. Remove them.
2. Find a socket which just barely fits the cap size. Then positon the joint with support on the bottom side leaving the bottom cap free to be driven out.
3. Drive out the joint by striking on top of the socket against the bearing cap. Repeat.
4. Observe for differences in the cap size between the "A' pair and "B" pair of caps.
5. Gently drive in the new parts, retaining clips
and observe paint marks for reassembly.
6. You want the same painted side of the driveshaft to line up as original to maintain balance.
7. Tighten and reinstall.

98 gmc sonoma w 2 pc drive shaft 2wd noise from rear u joint and vibration at 40mph and up. have replaced u joints and carrier bearing. rear ball and socket were dry and rusty.


remove the rear shaft from a 1990 full size gmc van (g-van) make sure the one you select has the scew on sleeve at the front of the rear section of the shaft
this will be the right lenght
take the rear yolk off your old shaft cut of the ball socket now get the same u-joint your truck calls for and mount the rear yolk (the section of the shaft that bolts to your rear end) to the new shaft
this works ive done it
you eliminate 2 of the 4 u-joints and lighten up your shaft this releives strain on you tranny and rear end when these u-joints and ball bearings fail they cause the vibrations which ruin the rest of your drive train also you gain 10hp
i spent 300 bucks rebuilding the OEM shaft and got no where so for 25 bucks i did this
