I had the same problem. I have a 86 monte carlo ls...my car shuts off from time to time. ive put in a new battery, alternator and starter. and it still did it. if you check the side of where the battery is there's a tiny fuse. check and make sure the fuse isn't burnt. i changed that and it fired up

Does it make any sound at all ? If not,it can be an electrical or open circuit. Does it click, click , click, if so it series of clicks means a battery problem or grounding problem. If it only clicks once it is your starter.

The temp. guage, the gas guage, and the psi boost guage sometimes work, and sometimes dont. what could be the problem

Most General Motors vehicles have a specific fuse in the fuse box for the "instruments".
On some models, there is also (or instead of) a fuse under the hood of the car inside the black plastic box (which also has fuses and circuit breakers inside it) labelled "instruments".
I'm thinking either the fuse is loose or bad, or the wires to the fuse are loose or bad.
God bless your efforts.

96 monte Carlo has good batt. but will not crank, no clicking, no noises at all

Probably going to be your ignition. Its the litytle box under your steering column with all the wires running to it. Check the fuses 1st to rule out the REAL easy fix but I'd put my $ on the ignition. Hope I could help. Good luck

1983 monte carlo 305cid when you turn the key to start absolutely nothing happens battery is new and good double checked that does not attempt to turn over nothing happens

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check your ignition fuse in your fuse box. If the fuse is good, make sure the terminals ends on your battery wires are not loose. Make sure they are clean. If your battery connection is good and the battery as well, try changing the starter or starter solenoid. Once you find it, try hitting it a few times to see if it will start. Since the battery connection and battery is good at this point, change the starter. Make sure all the wires to the starter are connected. When working on the starter, make sure you take the battery terminals off.

I need a diagram for my 1980 chevy monte carlo

'80 Monte Carlo, a good ride. A Chilton's book is a good investment. It will show you wiring and vacuum hoses and how to do the brakes, etc.

01 3.8 monte carlo will not start.. no lights no nothing

I think you may have an issue with the ignition switch, hitting the brake pedal would jar the switch, the switch is on top of the steering column.
