Question about 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T New Cars

2 Answers

I have a 2007 Dodge Nitro that the ignition will not turn over

Everything else works, including electrical. I had no clue of anything wrong. Went to start car and it would not turn over. I do have an advanced security system, but that is also working. Thanks for your help.

    Thank you for your immediate help, Ekse. I am accepting the solution, but since I had to leave my Nitro stranded at my job, I printed your solution and will go and try your suggestions. Hopefully, this will work. Will let you know. Thanks again.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand to my knowledge, the starting solenoid (that activates the starter motor) is actually interlocked by the vehicle's electronics. Therefore it takes over the cranking and starting. It would only engaged if several factors are satisfied:

  • automatic transmission set to Park or Neutral;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer OFF;
  • IGN switch to Start momentarily.
having said these, all that is needed is a quick turn of the key to START and let it turn back on its own. The starting fuctions are eventually also controlled by the PCM and TIPM.This is unlike the previous menthod of staying at the START till the engine catches.

Additionally, I was made to understand that the R/T motor is coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

    If all of the above are met and the transmission position is verified by the Shift indicator lights, then most probable would be the electronics that control the interlock.

Is the battery good? how about the starter?

Follow these steps to make the engine turn over.

Step 1: Set the emergency brake.

Step 2: If you have an automatic transmission, hold the gearshift lever firmly in the park position while turning the key. If nothing happens, move the lever to neutral and try again. If you have a manual transmission, make sure the clutch pedal is pressed all the way to the floor. If the car starts after any of these steps, the problem is a faulty safety neutral switch which should be replaced as soon as possible. If the engine still refuses to turn over, remove the keys from the ignition and follow these next steps.

Step 3: Tighten any loose battery cables using an 8-inch adjustable wrench. When tightening the positive cable end, make sure not to touch any metal while the wrench is connected to the cable. This is to help avoid arching, which could damage the battery. As long as you pay attention and take your time, you'll do just fine.

Step 4: Check for corrosion where the battery cables connect to the battery. If there is any corrosion, remove the battery cables beginning with the positive side. Now clean both the inside of the cable end and the battery post using a wire battery brush. Do not reconnect the positive cable until the negative side of the battery has been cleaned.

Step 5: Reconnect the red battery cable to the battery post marked with a "plus" (+) symbol.

Step 6: Reconnect the black negative cable to the battery post marked with the "minus" (-) symbol. After completing these steps, try to start the engine. If the engine still refuses to turn over, the battery will need to be jump started.

I have a 2010 Jeep which is a Dodge product that I went to install
Led lights in and put load resistors in and all that happened is the
blinkers flashed faster then they should. don't bother its a waste of time & energy the Factory lights are just as bright and bulbs are less expensive & easier to replace.

On my 2007 Dodge Nitro the third brake light & towing brake lights dont work, i've checked all the fuses related to this problem and are ok

INSURE THAT THE LIGHT UNIT IS NOT DEFECTIVE. AUTO ELECTRIC DIAGNOSIS BASICALLY IS FAIRLY SIMPLE.
1. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR THE FIRST POINT YOU HAVE POWER.
2. CHECK THE LAST POINT YOU DON'T HAVE POWER......THE PROBLEM LIES BETWEEN THE 2 POINTS

The security system red dash LED on 2007 Dodge Nitro flashes continually when ignition is on. Just started after I had some body repair work done last week. Don't have a security system installed. I think...

Take it back to the body shop that worked on it......if you have a car fixed and there is something different or more wrong with it when you get it back,,,take it back to the last person that worked on it.

2007 Dodge Nitro Tail Light Replacement

look at the car manual under maintenance and then rear light bulb replacement. First take out the two hole covers using a flat head to loosen then wiggle and turn by hand to get out. Pull the light unit straight back, and unplug the electrical. Don't break anything.
Then use a star driver (check your misc socket set drivers for the right size). Unscrew the two star head screws and pull this bulb holder straight off the tail light (same direction as screws). Replace the bulb and put back together in reverse.
