SOURCE: Loud clunking noise in 2008 Pontiac G5

HI, i would inspect the strut assembly for loose structure asap. i would also inspect the wheel knuckle and rotor and tie rod ends for loose fit as well. inspect thoroughly.

Its most likely the CV-joint assembly. the boot may have slipped off, allowing the joint assembly to dry up. i advise to inspect all the above before looking at the CV-half joint assembly and boot.

There are few possibilities that has to be checked/.As IAC valve is mostly the cause of this issues. You have already replaced it ,but still remove the IAc valve.Keep it out and then check.if the problem gets solved or is the same. In case the problem is same then the other possibilities to be checked are, Catalytic converter , check the o2 and maf sensors, check and clean the cold start sensor, also called by choke, it used to have a rich mixture for easy start. The failure of throttle position sensor will indicating by rough start but find idle. The failure of catalytic converter will indicating by heavy acceleration - sound of trapped exhaust gas from the CC .Also if there is check engine light On.In that case it's advisable to get car scanned at diagnosis center to get error codes, At diagnosis center you will receive the error code. As per the error code it will detect the exact faulty part in the car due to which the problem is occurring. For more help: --- at www.autozone.com it's absolutely free to get car scanned.

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

It sounds like the engine has a bad vacuum leak, they are very problematic for a leaking intake gasket. This usually would be accompanied with coolant loss, but not always. Other causes are loose air plentum snorkel (if air filter recently replaced) or a leaking vacuum hose. It could also be a sign of a computer problem starting. It would be best to have a technician or parts retailer scan it for you to narrow the problem down. The clunk noise maybe unrelated or possibly engine noise(like an intake issue), check the oil and coolant levels first.

It sounds like a belt thats slipping. You have a sticking puley somewhere, take off the belt and rotate all of the pulleys. Usually its an AC compressor pulley so pay special attention to it. The whining noise that it makes while turning, is it the same as the squealing noise? If so it could be a problem with the pump, check the fluid level and see if its an odd color or has an odd odor (like burnt or black). Hope this helps!

My car doesn't turn sometimes. it clunks when i turn, i have new struts and brake pads in. what is wrong?

Ok, that helps well these cars are known for the control arms bushings to collapse and and let the controlarm make contact witht he craddle this causes the clunking noise. it can also attribute to the hard to turn condition but this is usually caused by a rack and pinion. Hope this helps good luck
