Question about 2001 Dodge Stratus

Something broke inside my steering column and air bag light is on

I have no horn, cruise control and the air bag light is on. I can hear something rattle inside but it still drives great and runs good. I need help fast, it is my only transportation. The same things are going wrong with my 01 stratus I just bought a week ago. I had the dealer replace the tie rod today and when I got it back, the air bag light is on solid, the cruise control doesn't turn on and the horn doesn't work. The steering wheel also makes a clicking noice when I turn it around. I'm guessing when they did the alignment after replacing the tire rod, the clockspring in the steering column broke. So be careful for this!

The clock spring is broken. it winds and unwinds as you turn the steering wheel and is the conductor of electricity to the components that fail when it breaks. This is a recall item on many Chrysler models.

The horn switch and the air bag and cruise control wiring in the steering wheel go through the clock spring, ford calls it air bag sliding contact. The clock springs have been know to go bad.

Sounds like something happened to the wiring harness in the column. The air bag circuit is in a different harness.

Hello I have a 2000 dodge grand caravan, the air bag light came on and the cruise control quit working at the same time. I dont really care about the light but i do care about the cruise control. I have...

At first guess I'd say you have a bad "clock spring", it's inside the steering column and it feeds the electrical signals up to the controls in the steering wheel.
Your air bags won't work, your horn, or your cruise control. Anything that's in the steering wheel.
It will have to be replaced.
You can check with Dodge but I think there was a recall on them but I also think there is a time and mileage contraint.

Cruise control and horn stopped working

You need a new clockspring. It is behind the steering wheel, at the top of the steering column. It has wires wound around it like a clock. You will need to disconnect the battery, remove the air bag, then the steering wheel, and the steering column trim. Unbolt it, and install in reverse order.

1998 Ford windstar horn wiring

There is something called a clock spring in the column that is used for the airbag, horn and cruise control buttons. This clock spring if messed with will cause a/bag light to come on and possibly cause a/bag failure if there is a collision. DON"T mess with the wiring in the column. Run new wires in to the horn or install an a/market horn.
