My problem is that once you turn the ignition it turns on like normal (maybe takes a little more effort from the car than usual) and right after it turns on for less than a second, then it just dies and turns off. I KNOW it is a fuse box problem because someone just "fixed" the wiper blades by changing the fuse from one place to another. He can't remember where he got it from (which slot) and I have no guide to use as a reference. The car has 30 small fuses in total.

What exactly can you tell us ? Does the dash light up? Does the engine even try to crank over? Will the headlights come on bright when you turn them on? Horn work? Any different noises that you hear when trying to start?

Steve, you did not give much info. some causes for an engine not turning over when key is turned are blown fuse/relay, dead battery, faulty starter, security locked ignition out, bad connections, etc, etc.

Won't-start symptoms

Your car may not start for a number of reasons. The following list outlines the most common circumstances and tells you what action you can take to try to remedy each situation:

  • The car is silent when you turn the key in the ignition. Check the battery terminal cable connections If they look very corroded, force the point of a screwdriver (with an insulated or wooden handle) between the connector and the terminal post and twist it to lodge it firmly. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, you need to clean or replace your cables.
  • The car makes a clicking noise but won't start. This sound usually means a dead battery. If not, check the wiring to and from the starter for a loose connection.
  • The car cranks over but won't start. Check the fuel supply to your engine. If that's okay, check whether the electrical spark is getting to your spark plugs.
The engine starts but dies. If your car has a carburetor, check your carburetor adjustment and your choke to see whether the choke is first closing and then opening. If you have fuel injection

..@briver916...Recheck all the fuses and relays in the 2 boxes under the hood and another one of fuses and relays panel inside the car, front of the driver seat, behind the pull out box next to the hood release handle..Under the hood check inside the one with 8" black square box;Check # 1 slot fuse, it is 60 amps for (+B ), check # 8 slot fuse for Engine control 20 amps, check # 15 slot Fuel pump 15 amps..And check another skinny black box lie next to that box, it has relay F, that is Engine control, check that also...And inside the car fuses panel; Check # 1 slot fuse 10 amps that for Ignition coil, # 8 slot Engine control 7.5 amps, # 12 slot Engine control 7.5 amps..After that recheck the battery post, that maybe needed re-tight..Don't force to tight too much, that will crack and broke the post and the plastic battery body...And check all the ignition wires and spark plugs that are tight or needed to replace..And check all the vacuum lines that are loose and leaks suctions or sometimes they are crack open by long ages..By the way check and recheck all those other fuses and relay for make sure they are good...Believe me that not hard to figure out those problems..You did everything rights so far..That one 100 amps fuse at the + battery post cable was connect to alternator for recharging your battery and give power to other items when car was running..Below that post, the middle cable was connect to the starter motor and the bottom cable was connect to that 8" black fuses and relays box under the hood...

The car won't start; lights, ac, radio etc come on but car won't turn over or even click; checked battery cables; put different battery in; still won't start

Check the starter and the starter relay or fuse. A client of mines car was doing the same thing, it ended up being two issues, the starter not working anymore, and a relay that was bad. If I am not mistaken everything should be labeled in the fuse box under the hood and will tell you where the fuse/ relay is for your vehicle
