I had the same problem, then fuel pump failed shortly after, the sender for the gauge and message center are built in to the pump I believe. Once the pump was replaced, all was well. From my inderstanding, GM had problems with the fuel pumps for a while, but they will not pay for it, and if you go to the dealer, expect to pay aruond $800

I have a 2005 toyota tacoma and when I go to fill up the tank it will only let me get to 3/4. It lets me get to 3/4 normally then shuts off. The auto shut if in the pump handle will stop and I can slowly...

Check the vent valve to be sure its allowing the air to escape and the fuel is going in.If it isnt it will pop the uato shut off on the gas hose when filling up.The air has to allow the fuel to displace it while filling the tank.It is a closed emission system and you can have it tested with a low pressure tester or a smoke machine at thje dealer or well equipped local repair shop

Today while I was driving, The instrument where it telles you how many miles left till empty read 27mi. all of a sudden it started counting down rapidly, within seconds it had went from 27 mi to 4mi left...

Sounds like float in fuel tank is sticking. Usually caused by using cheap gas. Fill it up and add a bottle of STP gas treatment. It might take more then one tankful w/STP to clean it completely. TIP: don't rely on the computer generated "mileage left" especially when that low on fuel, that is only an estimate. And also don't let it get that low on a regular basis because it will damage your fuel pump, fuel is used to cool electric pump in fuel tank and running it that low will shorten the life of your fuel pump.

Fuel gauge stays at 3/4, after fill up

fuel gauges work using a variable resistor. Typically, when the fuel level is low, the fuel level sender is working at a high resistance. When the tank is full, the sender is working with a low resistance. Anything that increases the resistance in the circuitry will lead to a false low reading. Dirty or corroded wire terminals in the fuel sender circuit would raise the resistance. If you can remove the fuel sender unit from the tank, you can use an ohm meter to check its resistance. When the float is low, you should see a resistance of around 100 ohms. When the float is up (tank full) you should see a low resistance of about 2-5 ohms.

Fuel guage stuck at 3/4 tank on my 2004 Chevy Impala, message center stated, ''LOW FUEL'' tried to fill and only got 6 gallons before full and gas guage still at 3/4.

Hi: It Sounds like you Either Have a bad Connection on Your Gauge or the Sending Unit which is in Yout Gas Tank.Your Fuel Pump and Sending Unit Are Located In Gas Tank.Check and Make Sure your Connections are Good and Clean 1st. But it Really Sounds like your Sending unit has Gone Bad.To Replace Sending Unit You'll Have to Drop The Fuel Tank,Empty As Much Fuel as you Can Either Drive till its empty. Holding your Tank Up is 2- Metal Straps with Threaded Bolts and Nuts, Spray with WD-40 And Let It Set awhile Cause Normaly the Are Dirty. Then Take Eiter A Deep Well Socket if it will reach the Nuts,Or Use A Wrench -Remove BOTH NUTS And also at the Filler Tube You'll Probally have a2-3 Screws you'll need to Take Out. Your Tank Should Come on Down.NOTE: Don't PULL the tank out Until you take your Wire Connects Off Remember Which ones Went where. Then Slide Tank out Away From Vehicle, On The Top Of Tank where you remove the wires where thers a Metal Retaining Ring, You'll need to Spray with wd-40 and Remove that Ring,Buy taking a Screw Driver and small Hammer and Tap it out Going Counter Clockwise. After its Off you will be able to Remove the Complete Fuel Pump Assembly. All you'll Need is to Remove Sending Unit.Since Fuel Pump Was Working Right.See if your Auto parts Store has only the Sending unit.if not try Dealership, Hopefully You Won't Have to Replace the Complete Unit. Hopefully this will help you. Please Let Me Know By Voting for me on the Quality of Solutions i've Given you,And Leave a Testamony if You Will. Thanks From The WYOCWBOY

1993 sentra jerking problems.

I wanted to just give a you go to the same gas station to get gas? My sentra ran horrible because I kept going to this same gas station. My gas would get low and it would start cutting off and trying to cut off. I let my fuel go to almost empty and then went to another gas station to fill up. It hasnt cut of for about 6 months now and I havent returned to that gas station.

Message center states service 4wd

not sure about the fuel gauge, but I am willing to bet you need a new 4wd switch. This is pretty common on these trucks.

The fuel thing might be a bad cluster. This is also a common problem on the gm vehicles. I have 2 silverados, an impala and a malibu and they all have had funky problems with the clusters.

How to improve the fuel efficiency?

my 2 cents -

1. You didn't specify your exact model, on this site you'll fond your answer -

2. There are a few ways to do this, here's one -
- Fill your gas tank to the very top.
- Write down your odometer or reset you trip meter.
- Drive your car till it's time to fill it up again.
- When it's time to fill you tank, fill it to the very top (preferd in the same station, in the same pump).
- divide the number of miles (or kilometers) you drive, by the amount of gas you filled, This is of course only true for this gas tank, fuel consumption is effected by many things, load, driver, type of miles you do (city or hoghway), etc..

3. Service your car regularly, make sure tire pressure is correct, don't drive like you are racing.

Good luck,
