Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Need to replace radio in 2000 VW Beetle

My husband just bought me a new factory CD/am/fm radio for Christmas. He got it from E-Bay. Hasn't opened the plastic yet, but it is suppose to have the code. He would like to install it himself as I want it to drive to Alabama (any time now) to see my first grandchild. My daughter in law is in labor. Can you provide steps for removing old unit, installing new and get it working? Please advise, and thanks in advance!

I am in the process of replacing my radio as well and this is what I can share.  He will need to purchase or get ahold of a set of tools to remove the old radio from the dash.  I checked with VW but they would have to order the part ($5.95) but I found the tool in stock at WAL-MART!  You'll find it in the car radio section and it is a universal tool for removing several radios in import cars.  It is an easy procedure but you really should have the tools The instructions for removing the radio are with the tool.  Once you have removed the old radio it is as simple as unplugging a few wire harnesses from the back and the antenna cord and plugging them into your new radio.  Then just slide it back into place.  You will need the security code for your new radio.  Instructions for setting it are in the owners manual.  Turn the key to the very first position (before the dash lights come on).  The radio should read CODE or 1000.  Use the first 4 preset radio station buttons by pushing it repeated times to advance the numbers for each digit of the code (1-4). Once the code is entered push and hold the right arrow button of the SEEK button for about two seconds until you hear an audible beep.  This should do it.  If not, you get one more chance before the radio security locks and you will have to turn the key to the first position and leave it there for about an hour to reset.  Then you can try again.  Good luck!  By the way, who did your husband buy the radio from on Ebay?  Did it come with the code?  Is it new?  -JW

You'll need a specific tool for a specific radio that could be one of this.

Hope this helps they seem to know their stuff and there is a complete pdf manual for Moonsoon but I would hazard a guess and say you may well need a new one or aftermarket one soon

VW beetle new CD player draining battery! I recently bought and installed a new CD player to my 2001 vw beetle. Previous was factory tape player. After a week of new player battery drained completely.

Did you find a solution? If not reconnect the power wire to either ignition or accessory, this way when the key is taken out there will be no power at the radio

Buttons on my 2000 vw beetle radio that changes it from fm,am, cd,and tape will not push since my husband unplugged the battery and plugged back up

youre going to need to get the radio code from the vw dealer. there is no way around this. you will need radio serial number and the vin off the door of the vehicle. once you have this info, write it down in the back of your owners handbook. to get the radio serial number, the radio will have to be pulled out.

How to replace the front hood VW Ornament on a 2000 New Beetle?

To replace the logo, you can use olive oil to dissolve the glue, then pry it with a screwdriver. Then remove oil w/ soap and water. Then glue the new one w/ super glue.
For the radio, it could be the switch damaged inside. Remove the radio, open it and try to repair it. Or you can replace the whole radio with an used one.

I have a 2000 beetle with fixing in the boot for cd changer...will any changer do, not sure what i should be looking for! Thanks

Likely have a Monsoon radio system in your 2000 Beetle. The CD changer is controlled by your radio, and not any CD changer will connect to the outlet in your trunk. You can either find a CD changer on eBay (or elsewhere, or swap out your radio for a radio from a newer VW Beetle that has a CD player installed instead of the cassette. Can also find those on eBay.
