well i have looked at 3 different variants ,a mondeo, focus and escort and none the same, well if theirs wires on top and the bulge with the close up i can only assume its an oil pressure switch as underneath the head in that area is the oil feed for the cams so its possible to put a switch their .the reason why the oil comes out is beacuse the rubber seal inside is on its way out. This often happens with oil light switches and is nothing to be alarmed about ,could evan be an oil temperature sensor. This is a problem for mechanics as different models of the same vehicles can and often do have different builds ,looking at the photo the header tank bottle is in a different place and the air filter is different ,battery is in a different place could this be a focus in europe but still called a escort in usa ,Normally these switches unscrew but i cant see a nut shape on it ,could have a small bolt holding the housing with the switch on it ,all one piece so to speak .Sorry i cant be of any more help

Location of engine coolant temperature sensor

Automobiles: 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 4-cylinder 2.0L MFI DOHC

The "left" side of the engine is the driver's side.

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is a thermistor (a device which changes resistance or voltage as temperature changes). The sensor detects the temperature of engine coolant and provides a corresponding signal to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module - aka "the car's computer").

The ECT sensor is mounted in the following locations (small Ford engines):

1.8L engines: in the cylinder head
1.9L engines: threaded into the heater hose inlet pipe
2.0L engines: at the left rear of the engine

2.0L Zetec Engine

(1) Partially drain the engine cooling system using a clean container. If coolant is in good condition, retain for reuse.
(2) Disconnect the battery ground cable.
(3) Disconnect the electrical wiring connector from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
(4) Remove the retaining clip and the ECT sensor.

Fig. 1 Escort ZX2 ECT sensor - The retaining clip is removed (at the solid arrow). Withdraw ECT sensor by gently wiggling/pulling in the direction of the dashed arrow.

To install:

Coat the ECT sensor O-ring with clean coolant prior to installation.

(1) Replace the retaining clip and the ECT sensor.
(2) Connect the electrical wiring connector from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.
(3) Connect the battery ground cable.
(4) Refill the engine cooling system. An inexpensive plastic "Radiator Funnel" will help with this task.

Changed timing belt on my 99 ford escort zx2 car no

if you have a no spark scenario i would check your crank sensor located at the top left side of the harmonic balance pulley.the crankshaft (about 11'oclock) a 2 wire plug with a sensor on it check to see if it is damaged or unsecured. this sensor can cause no spark if not working correctly. This sensor is based of frequency not voltage testing is difficult, just make sure that there isnt too muck air gap. and that it is secured.Lastly may want to check timing possible that the belt has jumped some teeth and she has fallen out of timing. maybe a bad tensioner The coil will adapt i think up to 10 degree, ****** or advance. Good luck

Is oil supposed to be sitting on top of the sparkplugs? 2000 ford escort zx2.

no-- if oil is on plugs when removed from cylinder u have a problem with heads--valve seals more the likely problem-but others can be valve-valve guides-crack in head etc-----if oil on outside of plug-plugwire than look for a gasket leak

My 2001 ford escort zx2 has oil in the spark plugs, the comprehsion is good. It also shakes when coming to a stop.

They all shake!! this car is known to have an issue and it isnt cheap to fix. if you mean you have oil "in" the spark plug hole when you remove the boo (plug wire), it is leaking down from the valve cover gasket. Easiest fix on the ZX2. the new gaskets are simple to install. They come with instructions and any backyard mechanic wannabe can do it.
