Hi sushil from the uk try this ? if you check inside boot directly behind the lights you may find either a clip in inspection cover ? or carpet lining ? covering the lamps? pull/remove the cover to gain access to rear lamp/s then look at where bulbs fit? they will be either on their own bayonet plug for each bulb or all on a master plate of plastic which is removed complete with all bulbs by pressing a clip and withdrawing the assy? re assemble in reverse most uk cars and foreign cars have this type of rear light clusters please come back with update hope fully success? or if you req more help? merry xmas from UK

I have a 1998 Mazda Protege and when the headlights are on all lights work including the rear tail lights. When I press the break pedal the 2 rear lights go out completely except for the center (window)...

It is very likely that you have a bad break switch. It is usually located on a bracket right behind the brake pedal bar. A new switch is generally $30 to $45, and only takes a couple of minutes to change.

I hope this helps.

How to change the left brake light rear...thanks

Hello there,

To begin, open the rear door. What holds the light assembly is 2 bolts which are either Phillips or torx? Remove those, then there are retaining clips that hold the assembly in there good, you just have to force the light out. Then to get the bulb out just twist on the plug which the blown bulb is attached.

The "clips" are actually more like "spears" or "snaps". If you are replacing the left lamp (brake, backup, turn signal) place one hand each at the top and bottom of the assembly then in somewhat of a jiggling motion use the hand at the top to "turn" the assembly from the 12 o'clock position back towards the 9 o'clock position. With a couple/few tries it should come loose. Repeat the same on the right side only go from the 12 o'clock position to the 3 o'clock position. I would recommend to replace both sides at the same time and the bulbs usually/many times come 2/pack.

Good luck...

The main panel of lights on the rear of my 98 Mazda have gone out. The turning signal and the rear window brake light work and the rear the side lights work, and the light over the license plate works,...

I have same problem and have found the lower light to have a malfunction in the socket. Mazda says replace brake harness. Cheap fix junk yard but same prob can come back. Also does your cruise work? may be related to switch on brake pedal.

Rear passenger turn signal won't work

make sure you have the correct replacement bulb for that car. Some bulbs do more than one thing.

No brake lights

Sounds like it is your brake light switch which is located on the brake pedal itself.  Should cost around $20 at autozone and is pretty easy to change out yourself.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
