Question about 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara
I have a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara. 2WD works fine. When I put it in 4WD the light on the dash comes on, but the front wheels don't engage. Further, if I put it in 4WD low (on uphill snow in driveway recently), and it engages, but it takes a lot of gas to get it to move and as soon as I let off it stops all movement. It's as if I had the parking break on, but it's not. Thoughts?
I'm trying to determine if this is a transmission(which has been a bit clunky from time to time), 4WD/drivetrain, or some other issue.
Any information is greatly appreciated!!
This is most commonly caused by the motor on the transfer case that engages the 4X4 either sticking or defective, sticking can be caused by dirty fluid, have u ever serviced the fluid in the transfer case, it should be done around 30,000 miles if u use the 4X4 allot.
