Question about 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD

2 Answers

Custom Wheels I just bought a 2008 GMC sierra 1500. I put a set of 18" custom wheel on this new truck and everytime I went to brake I had a BAD chatter, a real BAD chatter! The guys at the tire shop took them back off and check everything and tried it again but still the BAD chatter in the brakes when braking. I had to put my original wheels back on. The custom set of wheels I run on my 2002 GMC sierra with no problems. Any ideals?

The tires on my 18" customs are very new, less than a month old. And I'm going from 17" on my new truck to 18" rims.

How good are the tires on the wheels. If they are low they could be breaking loose causing your ABS to engauge.

Their are a few other prob. causes. One being a bad wheel bearing that becomes more evident with larger and heavier wheels. It happens. I have had a new chevy malibu come in at 9000 miles when bad wheel bearings.

The other is the wheels change the suspention alighnment so much that is generating this issue.

Are these tires the same size as the OE tires.

There are few things you need to keep in mind.
1). do you have same type of tires as the 17"?
2). do you feel the chatter when the truck is empty?
the reason is that if the tire is different (true tuck tire), and if the truck is empty. chatter of ABS is noticeable higher than regular all weather tire and or the truck is fully loaded.
Remember, the Truck is more stable when it is fully loaded.

the last thing I can offer is have your dealer take a look at the EBCM, and the sensors. they do cause a lot of trouble if they are not install correctly (even just out of factory).

I would check with the service manager at the dealer, they may have idea as to what is the cause.

Put 22" wheels/tires on 2007 GMC Sierra

of course it will since the vehicle is not new. You have semi worn suspension parts that need replacing if the big huge wheels are a must.
the large tires have more grip to the road than the standard tires thus causing worst fuel economy and wear...
plus these wheels and tires will cause premature wear on all suspension parts as well. than the standard size thet where on it. The more friction on the pavement will cause more wear

Wheels were changed on my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup and I get a continuous light for the tire pressure monitor system.Won't reset so what is my problem and how can I fix it?

If just the tires were changed and you still have the original rims on the vehicle then you may just have a bad pressure sensor in on of the rims or the system may need to be reprogammed to recognize the sensors. If the RIMS were also changed then the replacement rims may not have the pressure sensors in them in which case the light will always be on since the system is always looking for pressure sensor signals that aren't there. If the rims were replaced and don't have the sensors you can purchase and install new sensors in these rims and program them so the system will recognize them.

Make sure master cylinder is full of brake fluid, then check to make sure rear drum brakes are adjusted properly. With rear wheels off the ground, truck in neuatral, wheels chocked, by hand spin wheel it should have a firm drag to it. If not they need to be adjusted.

No power steering but fluid level ok. was fine before driving through thick mud

try using a water hose and spaying the power steering piston while someone turns the wheels from stop to stop (it may be helpful to raise the front of the vehicle and support it with jackstands, set the e-brake and chock the rear wheels for safety.

Brake pedal vibrates while braking and doesent stop right away

There's speed sensors at each wheel. You may have got some contamination in front of one of them... sounds like the abs is trying to compensate for un equal speed at each wheel... and something may be blocking a proper read at one of the wheels...
