Fiesta mk 5 heater problem

I have a fiesta mk5 zetec s and the heater keeps going cold.
i have had the car at a garage and they thought it was air lock.
they flushed the water out and it worked a bit better but has now gone cold again.
also the temprature gague keeps going onto the red (really high) and then slowly goes down again.
any ideas?

Yeh ive had the same problem wat u do is lift ur bonnet and in the middle of the dashboard compartment you;ll see two slim pipes connected to a cylinder shaped heater control valve and disconnect the switch and plug it back in and tap that cylinder lightly if it does not work then obviously a replacement would be required but it has worked with me and ive only had to do this twice in 18 months

its nothing to do with flushing the system as long as u have anti freeze in the system its that heater control valve thats a pain

good luck

Sounds like a stuck thermostat or at least a faulty or backwards one, if it was put in upside down your temp would shoot up then slowly fall. Or else your radiator is close to being blocked. As for your blowing cold air I would bet that your heater core is blocked and needs to be replaced.

I have a fiesta zetec s mk5 and have had the heating control valve removed and put some strate through pipes so it has hot air coming from heaters, the temp gauge will start to slowly rise to red then...

If the radiator fans are working correctly, then sounds like a sticking thermostat. Only popping open when getting really hot. I would start with replace the thermostat.
Wait... This a 2011.. don't you have warranty still ?????? Take to dealer..

Why remove heat control valve? Bad idea.. Because of overheat? Put the defrost on and open the front windows to dump heat.

My Daughter 1998 ford fiesta zetec temperture guage stayed at the very bottom of the guage all and only raised late this afternoon, i've told her that it was because she had ony driven for a short time and...

Sounds like the thermostat is failing.

Thermostats fail in 2 ways: (a) sticking open (b) stick closed

Your seems to be sticking open - and so the engine warms up VERY slowly,
but still throws a little heat out the vents - less heat over time so that
your daughter didn't even notice the gradual decrease over time.

If you can replace the thermostat on your own, your cost may be less than $5.
To get a new thermostat (always buy parts on your own - the garage will charge a
50% surcharge on any parts they have to locate for your car), try Wal-mart first
(they sell a few thermostats for a few cars), then any auto parts place.

Replacing a thermostat in a 1998 Fiesta ZTEC engine should be the first thing
a DIY mechanic learns after figuring out how to do regular maintenance items - since
stuff like distributor cap/ distributor rotor/ thermostat are actually regular maintanance
items - destined to have a limited life span, like any moving part.

Heater in ford ka only blowing cold air

Hi if the car is not overheating then it will be the heater control unit, this is located just under the front windscreen when the bonnet is open look at the back and you will see 2 pipes going in and going back out of the bulkhead, these go all the time copy and paste this link into your browser

Check the thermostat aswell, and ensure the fan is working on the radiator , most likely though will be that part. very common

My fiesta mk5 zetec-s 1.6 is pinking alot loss

dealer only ,pinking is caused by timing being thrown out and its firing too early,by your spelling i asume your in the UK which means that your vehicle hasnt got an OBDII connector ,only fitted to vehicles after 2005 in europe so a cheap scanner wont help .Exactly whats playing up i havent a clue without plugging it in ,if you are in the UK have a middle of scate /chips /and nice big wally for me please
