Make sure the bolts for the slider are tight, the two on the door and the one on the body. If these are OK, then pull back the rubber boot on the body and if you see the metal is broken, then you need to have a body shop repair the broken spot welds. If the metal looks OK, then the door stay (slider) will need to be replaced.

Good Luck!

Common issue on these cars. Get it welded or drill a hole through the metalwork and bolt it tight with large washers to hold the poor welding together.

How to fix the shift cable

  1. Position the steering column transmission shift lever to PARK (P).
  2. Apply the parking brake.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

  1. Position the transmission range select lever to PARK (P). Rotate the range select lever clockwise until it reaches the full mechanical stop position.

  1. Slide the black retaining clip forward on the range select lever cable end. This will allow the white lock button to be pushed out.

  1. Push the white lock button on the range select lever cable end out. This will free the metal core adjust body which is inside the cable end. Do not push the white lock button completely out.
  2. Inspect the metal core adjust body on the cable end for dirt or debris that may restrict the travel. Remove any debris by washing the cable end, the metal core adjust body, and the white lock button with soap and water. If the travel of the metal core adjust body remains restricted after the cleaning, replace the cable assembly.
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Ensure that the parking brake is applied.
  5. Turn ON the ignition switch.

  1. Move the transmission shift lever from PARK (P) to 1 and back to PARK (P) ten times.

  1. Place the steering column transmission shift lever in the Park (P) position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

  1. Position the transmission range select lever to PARK (P). Rotate the range select lever clockwise until it reaches the mechanical stop position.

  1. Push in the white lock button in order to secure the core adjuster body inside the range select lever cable end.

  1. Slide the black retainer clip rearward over the cable end until it covers the white lock button. Lock the clip over the cable end.
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. Turn ON the ignition switch.
  4. Ensure that all the transmission shift light positions (P. R. N. D, 3, 2, 1) engaged and illuminate. If you cannot perform this task, repeat the cable adjustment procedures.
  5. Ensure that the engine starts in PARK (P) and in NEUTRAL (N) positions only. If the engine does not start in PARK (P) and in NEUTRAL (N), the Park/Neutral Position Switch may need adjustment.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  7. Ensure that the ignition key can only be removed with the transmission shift lever in the PARK (P) position.
  8. Start the engine and check the vehicle transmission shifting. The range select lever cable is properly adjusted if the steering column shift light positions are the same as the transmission engagements.

Noise driving over rough road worse after new links, struts, shocks

Do not heat or bend any suspension parts. Big no-no. If it's all touching and out of whack, check for possible bent frame. Body-shop that did the past work might have overlooked the frame being bent. All measurements start with a straight frame. Then go after the individual hitch and sway bar.

How can i fix my broken drivers side window on a jag s type year 2000. the power is there but i will not go up or down all i can here is a crunching noise

sounds like the window has come off the metal scissor runner, there is a metal fixture attatched to the bottom of the window, which has a channel groove,,,, the scissor runner has a nylon wheel at either end, which sits into the window frame groove..if these wheels come out, they cause a crunching noise..so, you need to remove door panel, and put window frame and runners together

Door Panel removal

remove all visable screws from panel and arm rest. Arm rest should come off. Use a flat thin tool or piece of metal and slip it between the panel and the metal door frame. Slip it in about 2 inches,. Slide it back or forth til you hit a stop. That should be a plastic pop in.twist metal tool to pull panel away from the door. It should pop away from door frame. Don't overdo it if it doesn't come out. try another spot. once you get one loose, you can tell how to get the others out. Once panel is loose push it upwards to get top lip out of window bottom. If it has power windows, disconnect plug. If it has manual windows, you will have to remove the window crank There is a snap ring behind window crank that has to be removed.push in on panel by window crank and you can see the ring.

Rattling noise coming from front & back

Matt, sounds like a suspension or exhaust noise. Grab onto exhaust (engine cold) at several locations (car supported securely so u don't get crushed) and wiggle, tug pull, kick, etc to see if u can get it to make any noise from hitting anything. Look for evidence of the exhaust rubbing against something, by looking for shiny metal due to contact w/ something. Also push up and down on the body of the car as violently as possible to simulate going over bumps. Pay close attention to heat shields around or on the exhaust system, if they are loose, they will make a racket.
And, as I said, possibly the suspension is making the noise, but not as likely, pushing up and down on the car body as described above might reproduce the noise. If it isn't the exhaust (my 1st choice), give me more clues if u can. good luck countrycurt0
