Leaking antifreeze from oil pan bolts

Looks like a gasket problem or is it possibly more

how many bolts are holding the oil pan

  • Anonymous Apr 29, 2009

Jeep started running a little hot, added coolant. was ok for a week or so and started running hot again. After a couple days coolant started leaking from top of oil pan. Can't find any trace of it leaking from above and trickling down. Jeep runs fine except for getting hot. Am I looking at just a head gasket replacement? or could there be more. Engine only has ~65k miles on it.

Its almost impossible to leak antifreeze from oil pan bolts. However if you have a bad head-gasket antifreeze can get into the oil and yeah with that back pressure in the oil pan it can leak. I would look at the water pump first, it is possible that the pump or the seal on the pump is leaking and it is running down the front of the engine and it looks like its coming from the oil pan. Check this vehicle care fully and make sure that it is coming from the oil pan. If it is really coming from the oil pan you would nee more than a gasket you would need a complete head job. Check and let me know, the status. Good Luck

If your leaking antifreeze definitely from oil pan then yes is more for sure, Probably find that the oil cooler has failed causing coolant straight into sump, check coolant to see if its gone foamy/creamy due to oil geting through?

Why do i have oil in my antifreeze

Transmission cooler inside the plastic parts of the radiator may be leaking and causing the oil to mix with the coolant. GM also has a problem with their lower intake gaskets leaking, which would allow the oil and coolant to mix. Last possibility is the head gasket is leaking and mixing the oil into the coolant side but not the other way. Check your transmission fluid for mixing evidence. Another thing to do is pressure test your cooling system (Radiator, hoses ect) to see if there is a leak. Another test to try out is compression.

My 2008 aveo5 is leaking what looks like oil. I looked underneath the car and it looks like it is leaking through the gasket on the engine that is to the left of the drainplug. That is if you are from the...

If the gasket is on the oil pan you may try tightening the bolt. To tighten pan gaskets you'll need to tighten in steps in a crisscross pattern. Snug a bolt move across the pan snug another bolt. Do this until all bolts are snug. Do not over tighten pan gasket bolts or leaks will occur. Just uniformly snuf.

How do you replace an oil pan for 2001 mitsubishi eclipse?

Assuming you're talking about the lower oil pan...it's very simple

1. Lift at least the passenger front side of the car using a jack, jack-stand, and blocks on the rear wheels

2. Drain the oil out of the pan by removing the drain plug (just like an oil change)

3. Remove all of the bolts on the outside edge of the oil pan (should be about 11)

4. After all of the bolts have been removed the oil pan is free to come off. It might still be stuck on and a few gentle taps with a rubber mallet with knock it loose. Be aware that there is still some oil inside the pan, so this step will be pretty messy

5. Clean the surface of the engine where the oil pan was mounted against

6. Take your new oil pan and place the gasket around the rim of the pan (if not using a gasket then put liquid gasket around the rim. This is important to ensure the pan doesn't leak)

7. Place the oil pan on the engine and bolt it back on. Start by tightening on bolt, then one as close to 180 degrees across from it. Repeat until all the bolts are tightened.

8. Fill the oil pan with new oil. You may also wish to remove and replace the oil filter.

9. If you used liquid gasket, give it a few hours to set (look at contained for a recommend amount of time to wait). If you used a rubber gasket, you don't need to wait.

10. Start the engine and check for leaks. If you notice any oil leaking from around the seal then turn the engine off, go back to step 2 and then repeat from there on. If you don't see any leaks, you are good to go.

I changed my oil less than a month ago on my 1996 Jetta GL 2.0 and since then the oil they put had leaked out completely. I bought my own oil and just filled it up and it leaked out again. I took it today...

Hi
It sounds like the sump gasket is leaking, this can happen over time and with a car of this age is not unusual, the gasket should cost no more than say £10 GBP and labour would be about 1 hour max.

Hope this helps

My oil pan is leaking around the corners. What do i do?

drain out hte old oil, Remove oil pan bolts, remove old oil pan gasket, install new gasket, install oil pan, tighten oil pan bolts to 17 ft. lbs. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as this will distort the gasket and cause another leak.

1999 olds alero leaking coolant

problem could be heads bolts . i put new bolts in put a little sealer on them . make sure your bolt holes is clean free from debris. put a lillte sealer on intake gasket on top and bottom where coolants travel. if all was done . drain engine oil in clean container .set it aside. take radiator cap off .you a coolant pressure rise kit .put a pan under oil pan with drain plug still off .pressure your radiator about 10 psi. make sure you have antifreeze in radiator and engine . when you pressure up to 10 psi look under the car if coolant comes out oil pan. you got leaking head gasket. if not .put oil pan plug back on . put oil back in car . check your freeze plugs also.
