Question about 2001 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

My engine light keeps flashing off and on then it stays steady

The engine sounds like it is about to die out. When I press down on the gas pedal the car goes slow. Today the weather is raining very hard so I have been driving through water and this is when the engine light appeared.

I just had the same problem. The coil pack is cracked and allowing moisture into it. Replace it and that should fix it!!

Also there is the windshield drain, if it is not sealed properly it will leak all over the coil pack and the top of the engine. You should get some silicone and seal it up...AFTER you replace the coil pack.

04 Galant will start but not stay on. I have to hold down the gas. Mechanic said the accelerator was deprogrammed and I have to take it to a dealership. True?

its sounds like your IAC (idle air control) motor isn't working correctly. It controls the amount of air that enters the engine when the throttle body is closed. If it is not working, the engine will start but dies from insufficiant air flow. Your car doesn't die with the gas pedal pressed because pressing the pedal opens the throttle body allowing air to enter the engine.

I know this sounds silly but check the air filter for blockage/dirt. If a engine runs fine at idle then wants to 'bog' down at anything above idle it possibly could not be getting enough air.

sounds like the security system is malfunctioning. When you turn the key on does the security light stay on steady or flash? If flashing leave the key on for about fifteen minutes till it stays on steady. the engine should then start. if it does not go steady, likely you need to replace the ignition key switch assembly.

1967 Ford Mustang-- idle problem

If I had to fix this, I would use a tiered approach. You have several issues to deal with. 1st- is the engine timing correct (lets assume it is), try adjusting the choke (blackdial on the ffront of a single barrel, turn towards lean) this should bring down the idle. Turn it till it almost dies then turn in the opposite dirrection SLIGHTLY until it steadies out. The engine might shake more now (it did w/mine) so now you losen the 1/2 bolt that is behind the distribibutor. Now that the dis. is lose turn the whole diss. assembily slightly in either direction. One way will steady out the engine, this is adjusting the ignition timmiing. If all that works out you should be golden. Of course there is a lot of possible causes connecting rod length between the gas pedal & carb, vac. leak(through a vac. gauge on it, that will help finding wether or not there is a leak). if this doesnt work repost with results and a vacum reading. I'll check back
