Question about Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

Sometimes, after the car is started.I put it on Drive and the engine just revs up, the "Check Engine" light comes on. If I shut the car down and wait a few minutes, everything goes back to normal: I can put the car on "Drive" and it behaves normally, the "Check Engine" light also goes away. any clues?, is this a common problem for this model?. Thank You

Check the Throttle Position Sensor? Cheap replacement if this is the problem.

I have a 1995 chrysler cirrus when im at the light the car starts jerking and sometime it shuts off.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU TOLD US THE ENGINE SIZE;STRAIGHT OR AUTO TRANS,AC ETC.
The 3.9 LT V6 engines back then had bad lower distributor/camshaft bushing. IF your car missfires-is hard to start-or tries to run backwards upon shutdown it may be this.
Engine will have to be put on analyzer(to show vaariable timing caused by bushing)=easy to Dx and may be covered by warranty .

At red light engine seems like it wants to cut off.

try changing your pcv valve. if its dirty it may be causing the shuttering. as for the check engine light going on and off, you may have a bad gas cap. if the cap is faulty it will cause the engine light to come on at times because of a poor air to fuel ratio.

My 1998 BMW 328i SERIES has a brand new battery but when I go to work and come back at the end of day, it seems to have a hard time cranking up. Can the radio or the air conditioning being on can take...

Firstly nice car.

It sounds like the alternator could be giving you hassle and the battery is not charging as you drive it. Two easy ways to check this 1. drive your car close to a wall at night and rev the engine with the lights on, if the lights dim then the alternator is nackered. 2. If you have access to a voltmeter check the voltage on the battery with the engine off, then turn on the engine and get some one to rev it. If the alternators working then the should only be slight movement in the voltage if not it will drain heavily (5-10 volts)

To reset the check control light turn the key in the ignition to as far as all the lights in the dash come on (dont start it) leave it in this position for about 2 mins (the car runs its own diagnostic check) then turn it off take out the key and put it back to the dash lights on position again.

Hope this helps.

1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic;165,000 miles. Check engine light comes on sporadically. Been told catalytic converter is trashed. Sometimes starts great; sometimes hard start. ...

Did you know Jeep did a recall and paid for replacement of catalytic converters on 1996 models (don't know about any others) - they reimbursed me for work done, up to a point - hope this helps!
