thanx for your help, the thermostat did solve the problem , there wasnt one in there atall, i realise why now, the car is loosing water from under what i think is a manifold on top of the engine, it isnt overheating but there is steam coming out from under the bonnet, any ideas ?

Ok if the levels are ok and no mixing, i would go for the thermostat if that doesnt solve anything it could also be the water pump or air in the system,

Let us know how you get on

My sub impreza 1995 wont start sometimes ive been told cold start valve?

Have you had it hooked up to a scan tool ? check sensor data ! Your vehicle has no cold start valve . Black smoke out the back indicates a rich condition , holding gas pedal to the floor causes the engine computer to go into WOT mode shutting off the injectors . Suggest you do injector leak down test , leaking fuel injectors ! Ever replace fuel injectors ?

1995 Oldsmobile 88 LSS 3.8 smokes at idle

Valve stem seals. Oil is thicker when cold (hence no smoke when cold) Vlave stem symptoms are when engine at idle (high vacume) oil is pulled through the guide seals, when you take off from lights get bit of smoke until oil is burnt. Ring symtoms is it would be blowing smoke all the time especially at higher rpm for extended time ie: driveing. Have you thought of trying a thicker oil? what oil grade do you currently run?

I have a 1995 GMC Sierra 500, the heat only blows hot when the truck is idling, when you get up to say 30 mph or 35 mph it will only blow cold air. What could the problem be?

It sounds like the engines thermostat is stuck open, when you idle the engine has little air over the radiator so the heater will work, but when you are driving lots of air and the engine runs cold. I am sure you just need a new thermostat.

1995 impreza engine cuts out stamers at low rpms

Check if you have rough idling as well. You may want to clean out the MAF sensor found at its intake manifold. You may use carb cleaners to spray it or tuner sprays. Other than that it could be loose wiring or vacuum hoses. A faulty or dirt Idle Air control valve may cause the problem.

1995 l coupe impreza engine light kicks on when car is stopped for a few seconds to a minute.

Not really enough info to give an accurate diagnosis but you may check the Idle Control solenoid. Some refer to it as Idle Air Control valve. or sensor

Could be the Ignition Coil Packs? Or maybe the Idle control valve. I presume you have checked the plugs and ignition system first?. Is this just from cold? More info needed really.
