Cranking a cold motor why does it take a long time to idol back down ?

Once started an engine needs to idle fast for a while and then progressively slows as it warms and becomes capable of smooth and reliable idling. This is built into the software of electronic injection models and the linkages of both manual and automatic choke or strangler devices.

It is more pronounced with some models than others but generally normal idle should be attained within 2 minutes even in very cold weather, sometimes less than half that. If that doesn't happen there is probably a fault that should be investigated.

Some models have a damper fitted to the throttle to prevent it returning suddenly and sometimes these can be troublesome, effectively holding the throttle open a little after the engine has been revved and allowing it to slow down only gradually. They are usually much worse when cold.

Why does the odometer, gas gauge and turn signals disappear and then come back?

As you guessed. It happens when it is warmer. Cars are computers now. So heat makes them act strangely. Most likely your problem is a bad solder joint. Most common. Most shops will tell you to replace the part and program it. costs are high..

When the weather is very cold (below zero) the car will not even try to turn over it wil only click at the starter and ignition no turn battery is fine never does this any other time. only cold, but once...

It is normal for batteries to lose a good deal of their power due to cold temperatures. If you want better starting power, try using a battery charger/maintainer overnight. It should charge at no more than 2 amps. The slow trickle charging overnight will charge and warm up the battery and allow it to develop full power for a cold morning start.

Slow or difficult to shift in to second or higher gears, slipping.

The first thing is to check the trany fluid level, if its full then you may have trany problems, also take into consideration the cold weather, if its cold this may be normal but when it warms up there should be no problem going into gears,

I have experienced many electical demons with all my British cars. The nav units can and do fail. I had a goofy one this summer and the only way it got fixed was to replace it. The module not the head unit

Strange water sound......

your evaporator drain tube is probably stopped up what you need to do is use compressed air to blow up the drain tube becareful because in humid climates the evaporator sweats alot and there can be alot of water in the evaporator case and it will come rushing out when the compressed air removes the blockage

Volkswagen Phaeton Dash Light Flickering

Our support team took your instrument cluster concern to the product engineers for their input. I finally have an answer ... however, I doubt you'll like the answer. Product engineering says the flicker you have in the cluster in cold conditions is normal. They likened it to leaving a laptop outside in cold weather. Upon start up, the screen would be slow to offer a quality display. This, in essence, is our issue with the instrument cluster, and there is no repair or update available for it. This is the answer from my dealer's service dept.
