Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

My alarm keeps going off

It happened this morning, my alarm keeps on honking, i have checked all the doors and nothing it keeps on going off, is my door spring that turns off the radio the cause of this? because sometimes my radio does not shut off when i have the door wide open( engine turned off) The horn starts out with a small "blip" beep then the panic alarm starts going off. Is it the door switches?

I've had the same problem with a 2003 cavalier. It was the door switch that tells the car the door is opened or shut! Sounds like a simple problem but it was definitally the problem.

I had the same problem with the alarm, the radio, the dome light staying on the lights left on alarm not going off four trips to the GM dealer who refers to my 2004 cavalier as a "crapalier" I have spent hundreds trying to have this problem fixed and finally figured out a solution which is never ever again in my lifetime will I purchase a GM product and some adavan to caml myself in the knowledge that my tax dollars are going to help this worthless company out.

When I lock the vehicle, the horn starts honking

Could be a few things, firstly you have little switches on the inside of the door jams these are to put the inside lights on when you open the door, sometimes they stick in so the car thinks the door is open hence the alarm sounds off. You should be able to find them easy enough also check the boot/trunk its slightly different in the boot as it may have metal contacts. if these are not clean and connecting properly then again the car will think the boot is open if they do seem a little stiff spray some WD-40 on then and push in and out until they feel free.

The other thing it could be is the alarm sensitivity, its basically a small screw you turn and it controls the level of the alarm going off, like if its very windy and your alarm keeps going off then you would adjust it to be less sensitive.

Thirdly the car battery may be on its way out or the connection to the battery is lose somewhere, the car will think someone is tampering with it and again go off.

Lastly the car locks may not be completely turning to the lock position kind like they are half way between locked and unlocked although the car will still lock, This is more common on hondas though so less likely on your car!

Try the cheapest option first check them switches on the inside of the door, called pin switches. its very common this time of year if its cold. have a good scout right around each door and, also the bonnet/hood sometimes have this switch once you have seen one you will know what they look like. just make sure they are all connected properly and free them up.

Hope this helps, if itsnot any of them then its a fault on the alarm. Do you have a very small key? if so chaces are its for an aftermarket alarm so you can find the noise making box under the bonnet and turn it to off.

Check your remote to see that it isn't setting off the alarm. If the battery is dying on the remote, this could happen. If not, have alarm checked.

it sounds to me like you have a short or something in your car is using power. You might want to try to pull the fuse for the alarm and leave it out over night, then try the car in the morning and see if it starts. If it does then the problem is in the alarm. My car did that a couple of times and my alarm was the trouble and to replace it. Hope that helps.

Alarm system

Just curious, do you have an entry system?
or does it open with a key?
What happens when you try to start the car?
Anyway, I probably would disconnect the battery,
wait a few minutes and reconnect it if nothing else works.
Another thought is try all the doors.
There could be one door causing the whole problem.
Good Luck,
