How to repair the code P1729 step motor for a short to ground? Jeep Compass 2011

old post and so wrong..... seen this endless for noobs, and jeeps.
DTC jeep.
p1 is factory code
P17 - tranny.
first off many jeeps have 2 or more transmissions options new.
this car has 6 different transmission and engine choices new
sure the CVT box you have,
the other 3 are M/T boxes (stick shifted)

ever worked on modern A/T boxes seems not to me.
for sure not CVT boxes nor Jeeps. with it.

first off do not read non jeep books or that DTC code you will read lies. P1 is jeep only code. called factory jeep codes.
P0 codes are federal generic codes
P1 ,P2, and up are factory codes JEEP.

Transmission Ratio Control Circuit (Failure it is)
off the real service manual it states

P1729-TRANSMISSION RATIO CONTROL CIRCUIT For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
The Transmission Control Module monitors and controls the gear ratio by the use of a Step motor that transfers electrical power to mechanical movement. The rationality is a continuous test that monitors the Step motor movement. If the Step motor ON/OFF status does not match the TCM requested ON/OFF status a DTC will set.
  • When Monitored:
Ignition on with a system voltage between 9.0 and 16.0 volts.
  • Set Condition: If the Step motor ON/OFF status does not match the TCM requested ON/OFF status for the period of 200 msec the DTC will set. It takes two consecutive problem identification trips to illuminate the MIL.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this means the stepper motor in the transmission is failing
via the .
TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE even it bad
wiring from it to box bad (box = tranny as in gear box)
wiring at box or inside box bad.
or the Stepper motor inside is shorted, or open or bad.
the manual shows checking voltage and ohm here , got the manual.
even at alldata.com

only jeep can fix this, for sure to find true cause

they have in the jeep shop the CVS testing system you do not have.
nor anyone else.

Suzuki TCM issue

You did not post the year of the vehicle Newer model years can forget what the programming is when the battery is disconnected and the only way around the issue is to have a dealer re-flash the TCM. This is not cheap.

Hi, I have a 2013 lancer with CVT Transmission, driving along at 75/80 mph and light come on that sayes transmission overheating slow down , what can be the cause for this to happen .? Thank you

check oil level in the transmission
run the fault codes as it could be a problem sensor
make sure that only CVT transmission oil is used as ATF oil destroys CV transmissions

How to fix CVT Warning Light?

the CVT light is associated with the transmission. I don't think changing the fluid/oil in the transmission will help. you need to find a shop that can access the transmission control module to fint out ant fault codes and go from there. could be a simple speed sensor or shift control solenoid.
