i have daytime running lights....but no headlights .....

  • newkidd11 Dec 11, 2008

when i turn the headlight switch on....the parking lights work ...and the tail lights work. if i trigger the highbeam switch on the blinker.....as if to flash the lights....the work and the high beam symbol in the dashboard also comes on. however if i put the headlight switch on.....and the high beam light switch on....the indicator does not come on. the light bulbs are all good. wondering if it could be the body control module ?

  • newkidd11 Dec 11, 2008

headlight relay does respond to the headlight switch.........however........when i full the highbeam switch to flash ....its does click. .......... fuses are fine

  • newkidd11 Dec 11, 2008

If i am wrong please tell me......but i beleve there is only one relay for the lights. so i assume im playing with the right one.

  • newkidd11 Dec 11, 2008

we are testing that now...does the car need to be running for this to work?

  • newkidd11 Dec 11, 2008

    no power to either wires.........

  • newkidd11 Dec 11, 2008

all four of the fuses are dead with the daytime lights off....and they do not respond to the switch. but they activate when the daytime lights are on,

if i pull the signal back to flash, i lose the low beam fuses and it ignites the high beam fuses.

Where are we with this problem? Any Success?

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

Check this for me before you do that: Remove the shroud around the steering column, and, probe the connectors on the headlamp switch, in the ON and LOW BEAM position. Advise me which coilour wires light up the testlamp.

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

Get a piece of wire, and strip the ends off. Remove the headlamp relay, and examine it closely. Determine where terminals 1 and 2 are in the fusebox, that would be under the headlamp relay when it is in the "installed" position. Using the wire, jump terminals one and two. Now check to see if you have power to the 4 fuses.

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

You have no power on both sides of the four headlamp fuses?

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

    Yes

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

There are 3 relays. Headlamp, Daytime running light and dimmer.

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

Do you have access to a 12 volt testlamp? If so, remove the wire connector from the back of the low beam bulbs. Look for power in the solid GREEN and the solid BLUE wires; left & right respectively) With the low beams on, there should be power in both of these wires. Let me know.

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

First, check the headlamp fuses in the fuse box under the hood.

Second, with the low beams on, locate the headlamp relay, and remove it. Refit it into the receiver very gently, and listen to see if it clicks. Then get back to me.

Side note: The headlamps are not part of the body control module; they are a seperate system..

  • Toyota Ed May 11, 2010

The daytime running lights are the high beams running at 6 volts. Remove one of the low-beam bulbs and isnpect the filament, advise me if it is broken. Thanks.

Bridging wire one to two makes it live at fuses only....but does not ignite the headlights.

Headlights do not go off so battery went dead. Also dome light does not respond to drivers door

Never rely on the door switch to shut off the lights.
That is always an extremely unreliable system on any car.
Whenever you shut a car off, turn off everything. That includes radio, AC, fan, etc. Otherwise you are putting a great strain on your battery when you next try to start it.

1994 toyota 4 runner rear lights

Your wiring could not have been checked thoroughly. Heres an easy solution. Establish if the earth (-12v) to the bulb holder is stable. If it is then run a new wire from the front park lamps to the rear. That will solve your problem. Remember to cut off the original wire that goes to the rear and insulate it well.

I need to disconnect the power to a 2001 Toyota 4-Runner.

further to this.... if the battery has side bolts but no actual bolt heads it is probably an allen key or torq socket you will need to disconnect it.
