Does it strain to go over 25 if so then tune up with new fuel filter. Check your spark plug wires. Also you can hook up a timing light to each spark plug wire and rev it and see if the light skips.

When driving past 20 mph engine sounds like a small jet engine and gets louder when driving on highway

Do this on a deserted straight road. Drive at 25mph and cut the engine. Remember you will have NO brake assist, and NO power steering. Does the noise stop? If is does, it is the engine, if it doesn't, then it is wheel bearings or Transmission noise. You can only check if it transmission on a manual gearbox vehicle by slipping into neutral, or of you can shift into Neutral on an automatic. Make sure you avoid Reverse!

it could be the speed senor. engine rev speed and auto box speed is calculated for changing gear. you will need to have the auto box codes read to be sure.

Check the:
- Fuel pump pressure and regulating valve.
- Check the ignition system.
- Air leaks. (Throttle body gasket, idle air control valve shucked open, PCV valve open, vacuum hoses, gasket intake manifold, A/C VSV).
- Muffler.

1995 Nissan Altima Stuck in First Gear

1. check transmission fluid level or if you can change the fluid & filter.
2. check throttle position sensor (tps).
3. if fluid level & tps are ok & still not upshifting automatically, temporarily (so you can take it to a transmission specialist) , try to manually shift. starting from dead stop, shift to D1. at about 25mph shift to D2. (be gentle on the accelerator & don't over rev on each gear. release accelerator pedal & don't step on the brakes while shifting from D1 & D2).

99 kia sportage sputtering under acceleration

Hi Missippirebe, I think you should replace the fuel filter and if the problem persists check fuel pump pressure. It should be at around 3.7 bar. Regards John

Will not go over 25mph

Could be a frozen brake pad/ emergency break. The other option is the antilock breaks or traction control is not allowing the tires to move faster then 25mph

97 neon pops into nuetral when I hit 25 mph....

Sounds to me like you are having a transmission problem.  Basically your transmission has gone into "limp" mode which is why you can drive your car up to 25mph but no further.  Basically your transmission has limited it self to reverse, neutral, and 1st gear.  Take your car to a transmission shop and have it diagnosed.  Often a simple flush and fill will fix the problem, but you might need a new transmission.
