Hi if your made of money then you can go to the main dealer but if your local mechanic is reputable then he should be alot cheaper for the same job, also the timing belt is not usually covered under warrenty, but to comply with the warranty you must keep your car serviced and replacing the timing belt is part of a main service, Hope this helps

Timing belt broke on hyundai sonata 2002 what should I do? The mechanic saya theres a ten percent chance that replacing the belt will solve the problem.

You can have your mechanic pull the valve cover. Loosen the bolts that hold the cam(s) in place and do a compression test. If one or more cylinders is low on compression the motor is junk. If the compression test is fine reinstall the cam and replace the timing belt and you should be good to go.

My vechile is a 2002 hyundai santfe and i have 63,000 miles on it. Other than normal repairs or factory recalls. I haven't had any major problems with it.Every time I go to the dealer for an oil change,...

the reason Hyundai suggest a belt change at 60k is that when it does snap, your looking a $3 to $4000 for a engine rebuild, and in England we have an unlimited mileage warranty for 5 years and the belt/engine is covered, if its changed at the proper time(60k).i think its called insurance, you have to have it,but you hope it never happens...ask someone who has had a belt snap.....any make...
some makers are going back to chains.....

You would have to proceed like you were going to change the belt until you could see it to inspect it. Here is a link to instructions on inspecting and replacing it.

Timing belt replacement for 2002 hyundai sonata Need pics and reliable instructions

this is a job for a qualified repair shop. I do not recommend you to do it. If you want to do it, buy a manual, prefer a manual from the dealer. The money you save will more than pay for it.

Get Haynes manuel, if you are not good with tools, or have never worked on a car before, go to a local, private auto service place...get to know a mechanic there. On the sly, ask him if he does "side" work on weekends for cash! He would make $50 that his job would pay him, for a job worth $250 for labor...get him a $100.00 to fix it on a weekend. That and a case of beer will git er done.

Buy your parts from Rock Auto on line....or, get the Rock Auto price sheet plus shipping and go to Checker, o'Reilly, Shucks, they will match the price........

A 2006 sonata 4 cyclinder does it have a timing belt or chain

If it is a chain then no it does not need to be changed. I would call the local dealer and give them the vin# to make sure 100% if it is a chain or a belt. Achain does have guides made of plastic that you may want to think about along with the tensioner. Good luck.
