Do a compression test to see what your cylinders are sitting at, then pour a cap of oil in each one and test again if it goes up its your head if nothing changes and still low numbers its your rings, blue = oil and would explain loss of power at pistons, time for a rebuild sorry to say good luck though

What causes high oil consumption, no power and black smoke

Rings, valve guides, but oil is usually blue, excess fuel is black. Start with a compression test and check OBDII codes for starters.

My BMW 3 series estate is using @1litre of oil every @50 miles! This after my garage replaced the piston rings recently! It also lacks power and vibrates from time to time!

Did they replace the Piston Rings for Compression Issues or Oil Consumption?
Sounds like you may need to go back to that shop. Piston rings are a "Major Operation". Chances of a gasket leaking after reassembly is highly likely. Do you notice blue smoke from the tailpipe on hard acceleration? That would indicate ring issues. Remember that any New Rings need to be broken in properly too. If the rings are not sealing properly they may be fouling out the spark plugs causing rough running and lack of power.
Any reputable shop should be willing to take a second look at their work to see if something is wrong - go back and see them.

I have a 1994 gmc jimmy. it started at first with losing power on small hills to where I would have to pull over and wait a few minutes and then start it again and no?w it smokes when you drive it. C

If you have smoke coming out of the tailpipe, it's not likely the transmission. Smoke coming out of the tailpipe is an engine problem, possibly rings. Rings will cause loss of power, too, as well as increased oil consumption.

Ford laser 99 no power

Hi there.
well when you throttle up to about 2000rpm do you get blue smoke coming out the exhaust. When driving on flat road will it power up as normal with out missing or getting hot.
what colour was the old spark plugs were they black or light brown.
When you start engine and run for 3 minutes then let it idle and remove oil filler cap do you get smoke coming out.
Number 1 if yes then engine is lacking power due to piston rings worn answer rebuild engine.
Number2 spark plugs brown [good] if black soot as num1.
Number 3 if you get black smoke or blue ,then the engine is lacking compression could be your problem as num1

Smoke and oil smell at start up sometimes

I have a 1989 chevy silverado. my dad bought it new and never drove it. he wanted to pay it off first. after 5 years it had 15K miles on it. it then smoked everytime he cranked it after it had sit a while. The lack of driving it caused the rubber valve seals to dry rot. so now when it sits, oil seeps down between the valve and the seal and enters the piston chamber. when he cranks it, a poof of blue smoke blows out the exhaust but quickly disappears after the the initial poof of smoke.
this may be your problem also if you have abnormally low milage on the vehicle

Smoking at higher rpms

Hi, its time for a ring set job in this vehicle. the blue smoke is a sign of major oil consumption due to bad piston rings. you also have faulty valve seals as well. this is deep engine repair and it will be costly.

If you cant do this job soon, be sure to watch the oil consumption by checking the level regularly and, monitor the oil pressure as well.
