Mine happens most often at very slow speeds like just before I stop. The anti locks flutter and the brake pedal goes mushy and I loos my stopping ability sometimes. My brake pedal goes to the floor and sometimes it does not go to the floor it just will not allow the front brakes to apply. I nearly run into a vehicle at a stop light when I applied my brakes. They flutter and then I put both feet on the brake pedal and the brakes did not apply. note the pads are good.

The sound seems to happen when I brake hard. Normal braking does not cause this sound. No light goes on on my dashboard.

You most likely have a wheel speed sensor dropping out this would make abs system think one wheel is locking up and therefore activate. this usually will happen rt before you stop at around 5mph or so.Also if you have bigger tires than factory and have not had abs programmed for this size it can aggravate it

What do I do about the buzzing sound that comes from my anti lock brakes

You should not have a buzzing sound from the application of the Antilock braking system.

If the traction control or electronic stability control system kicks in you may get a buzzing.

What brake ststem do 2001 silverados have? rear brakes

Hi. Your 2001 Chevy Silverado is equipped with Antilock Brake System (ABS). You will identify also if your car is equipped with ABS by looking at the instrument panel for a yellow ABS indicator light after you turn on the ignition.

All the best!

Truck not stoping and anti brake is working.

dosen't stop at all or just slow?, if the abs is working then you should feel the pulseing in the brake pedal just before tire lock-up, the tires will not lock-up with abs fully funtioning unless all four tires or two are in lock-up depending on the abs application, if abs fails it reverts it self to regular braking ability, hope this helps

2001 Chevy Silverado anti-lock brakes activate on dry pavement, the pedal pulsates, the typical anti-lock brake sound is heard, and the truck feels like it is not going to stop at times

One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub. There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. Sounds like a faulty wheel sensor. I would suggest a trip to the repair shop.

Front brakes make a buzzing sound when applied hard.

i'll suggest this to you as i would anyone that's never experience abs brakes before.... find an empty parking lot and drive forward and make a panic stop. just once so you will know what the brakes will do... the buzzing sound you hear is also felt in the brake pedal ?

Antilock brake system engages on low speed stops on dry pavement on my 2004 Silverado.

The most likely cause is rust buildup under wheel speed sensors causing them to dislodge(lift up) from front hubs and read incorrectly. If recall has been performed to fix this problem...You may have to replace the appropriate hub in order to stop the ABS activation at low speeds. Let me know if i can help more.
