I have two key fobs. The first stop working some time back. Did not try to fix it just used the other. The other stop working. What I think is happening is I have a bunch of keys on my ring and while driving the vibration from the fob hitting the dash, Shook the solder joint to the battery a the place holder for the fob battery came out the solder joints
This happened to both fobs. Now they both wont work. You think you could just program them with the key in the ignition instead of taking them to the dealer.

Hey Lisa, You are going to have to take the car and the key fobs to the dealership . They will need all of the fobs , as they are all going to need to be reprogramed at once ;
The fob on an 07 Pontiac only can be programed using a diagnostic scan tool . They will connect the scan tool to the vehicle. Turn key to on position. Select 1 body, then select special functions then select program key fob, select the number of key fobs you want programed. Press and hold the lock and unlock key simultaneously for about 15 seconds until the power locks cycle to confirm the remote is programed.

When you change the battery on your key fob, sometimes you will have to reprogram it to your car's security system for it to function. Make sure your trunk and hood are closed along with all of the other doors, then get into the driver's seat and shut the driver's side door. Put your key into the ignition and click it into ACC mode which is to click it back one click. Wait momentarily until you hear a beep. Quickly now click it forward once and then back to ACC mode where you will then hear another beep.Now open the driver's side door and then shut it to hear the last beep signifying that you are now in Programming Mode.
Press and hold down both the lock and unlock buttons for fifteen seconds and listen for the beep which will signal that the fob has been programmed. Continue this for all existing and new fobs, you will be able to program four remotes to your Grand Prix and will have to do them all at once due to the memory being forgotten every time you enter Programming Mode. Once you have programmed all of the remotes and heard a beep for each one programmed, remove the key from the ignition to exit Programming Mode. You are now free to test your fobs and ensure that they all work.
I have the same problem with my 2008 Grand Prix - replaced the batteries in both key fobs - they worked for a few days and quit working. Remote start does not work and both of the cigarette lighter chargers do not work either. I have recieved a "charging system failure" message on the readout screen as well. I have checked with 2 different mechanics and they are not sure what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
The key fobs stop working because the solder joints that hold the battery in place break free. Very easy to fix with a little solder and a soldering iron. I just fixed a bunch of them for people I know including BOTH of the fobs for our 2006 GP GT. Takes about 5 minutes each.
