93 blazer runs better when check engine light's on

93 chevy blazer/tahoe 5.7 liter Replaced both heads, gaskets, plugs, wires, rotor, dist. cap, fuel filter, starter and now the check engine light comes on. Runs great when light is on. Runs like **** when light goes off and often dies but starts back up. It also runs really rough for first 10-15 seconds even if it's warm. Can you help me out?

Take it to advance auto parts for a free computer check to see what engine code is being set. that is a good start. sounds like a MAP, MAF, O2, or even a TPS. let me know if this helps.

Could be a temp sensor or similar too, and believe it or not, the price to have the vehicle scanned for codes, and fuel pressure tested if necessary, usually ends up being cheaper in the long run, rather than play hit & miss, and replace a bunch of parts by guessing.

It could be a faulty fuel injector, try running a fuel injector cleaner through your fuel system. At worst the poppet nozzle has gone bad and will need to be replaced, you can buy the poppet nozzle it self individually at Auto Zone or buy upgrade MFI system which is much better and less pron to fuel leaking room a cracked poppet line or nozzle which will cause what you have described.

Have you checked for vaccume leaks?
You've got lots of parts in there, Has the problem been the reason you have replaced all of those, or did it come up while doing some of the repairs?

Removed & replaced dist. cap and rotor on 1993 S10 Blazer 4.3 V-6

The firing order for a Chevy s10 depends on which engine you have. 1.9L engine the firing order is: 1-3-4-2 . Distributor rotates counterclockwise. 2.0L engine the firing order is: 1-3-4-2 . Distributor rotates clockwise. 2.5L engine the firing order is: 1-3-4-2 . Distributor rotates clockwise. 2.8L engine the firing order is: 1-2-3-4-5-6 . Distributor rotates clockwise. 4.3L engine the firing order is: 1-6-5-4-3-2 . Distributor rotates clockwise.

Rought idle

There is a tester you can use that screws on the radiator cap and you can pump it up to see if it has a leak down effect in the system.. This wont tell you where its exactly going but tells you if there is a leak in the head or intake gasket.. probably should start with the intake and replace it and see if it does the trick .. if not then tear it down and replace the head gaskets and or check heads for cracks also.. thanks Jerry
