I have a 2003 Envoy. The vehicle worked perfectly until yesterday. My wife locked her keys in the vehicle while it was running. After we unlocked it with secon set we brought it home and parked it. An hour later I go to start it and it won't turn over. Dash board lights up, headlights are on but no reaction from the starter. Very werid. No indication of a stareter problem, no clicking, whirring, nada...

Thank you for the replys. Good news, bad news, good news, bad news. The vehicle truned over and fired up after sitting for two days and after multiple tries, Bad news is that I didn't do anything except try to identify the security symbol to check if it was flashing. It wasn't so I tried to engage the starter and it started like new. Bad news is my wife wants to get rid of the vehicle because she can't trust it and we live in northern Canada where the temperature yesterday was minus 21 C. It warmed up today to just below freezing so maybe that had something to do with the problem as well as plowing through a foot of snow yesterday. Could the starter have froze? Good news is that I really appreciate learning how to reset both the security system and especially the computer. I wish I could have tried both. I hate mechanical systems that are so finicky. Thanks again and I will let you know if the problems recures. Do you think the snow storm and deep cold were an issue?

Depending on how long the vehicle sat after driving through snow i doubt if the starter froze but it possible you might contact a dealer and get an estimate on having repaired do to cold temps. and possibley being stranded for some time

You should try resetting the computer. This is done by pulling off the negative cable to the battery. Pull it off for 20 seconds, on for 10 then back off for 20 then back on permanately. You may have tripped the anti theft system on your vehicle. This may or may not solve your problem, but will eleminate some things. Good luck to you. Thanks for using fixya!

Sincerely,

JC

Absolutely, driving through the snow and the cold air cold have froze up your starter solenoid amongst other things. I really dont think that the starter itself could freeze, but the solenoid very well could have in those kinds of conditions. The solenioids these days are down by the starter or even integrated with them (which yours is integerated I believe). I have to side with if the problem persists getting a new starter solenoid and see if that goes away. Solenoids are cheap. Hope that gives you some direction.

2003 gmc envoy keyless entry is locked and will not unlock with the key or the remote. it does lock - horn and lights illuminate. is it the remote or the car? I can't even unlock to pop the hood.

if your key is not working to unlock door==try turning key over and then try to unlock door. I have had keys made for replacements and they sometimes don't work quite right one way but work just fine the other way.

to unlock hood with out being able to get inside; you need to reach up from under car and pull/yank on cable to unlock hood.

Is there an app that will let my wife's HTC One sv smart phone simulate the key fob functions (lock/unlock) for her 2005 Dodge Dakota ?

Right do a bodge up colin type repair, get a spare key cut without a chip and wire it up under the car in a secret place and grease and wrap the shaft then if the better half locks herself out then at least she can open a door .

12/6/2010 2003 bmw 325xi: Key does not manually lock/unlock driver door...but still works in ignition and trunk...central locking system still works to lock/unlock all doors(including driver) from...

If the key turns in the lock, but does nothing, then the linkage has become disconnected or broken. The key is mechanical to the lock and the lock has a electrical switch to operate the central locking unit. Could be a simple broken clip from the lock barrel. Hope this helps

I changed batteries in my 2003 GMC Sierra key fob

1. Close all doors
2. Insert key into ignition
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver's door panel, continue to hold down
until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in a fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine.)
6. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine.)
8. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
9. Release the power UNLOCK button on the door panel. The vehicle should respond by
door locks locking and unlocking automatically. (If locks do not cycle after you let go,
not before you let go of the unlock button, then the vehicle has not entered programming
mode and you must start procedure over. Remove key from ignition, open drivers door
and return to step 1 ). If the locks do cycle automatically then proceed to step 10.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote until the doors lock and
unlock. This may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional remote. (Including any existing remotes).
12. Turn the ignition to the ON position to exit the programming mode.
13. Test remote(s).
