I HAVE A NEW JEEP LIBERTY 2008 WITH LESS THAN 4000 KM AND THE 4WD SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE ENGAGING ITSELF WITH THE 4WD FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE SERVICE 4WD ICON STAYING ON THE DASH. THE 4WD SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE ENGAGED BUT WHEN I TRY TO SWITCH IT BACK TO 2WD IT STAYS IN THE 4WD MODE UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. ALSO THERE WAS AN OCCASION THIS WEEK WHEN THE ESP KEPT FLASHING AS IF IT WAS TURNED OFF THEN WENT OFF AND THE 4WD ICON CAME BACK ON WITH THE SERVICE 4WD ICON ON THE DASHBOARD STAYED ON. THEN SWITCHED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND THE 4WD STAYED ON AS IT SHOULD WITHOUT THE SERVICE 4WD ICON ON.

did you put it into 4wd on dry pavement.? bad. on part time.RTM.
try jacking up 1 wheel and cycle it to see if you can unlock it.
there are lots of 4wd checks.

Get the codes read. It could be the MAF sensor.

it's either leaking oil or burning oil.

If the cap is good and the venting system is working properly the code should re-set itself in about twenty miles of driving.

I had this same problem with my Jeep Liberty 2008 and it need a new computer
module...it was very expense thank the Lord that I was still under warranty.
