I have a Mazda MPV 2001. After a short drive I can smell gas fume coming from the driver vent. When I step outside of the car I notice that the smell is very strong on the right side of the hood. The smell make me feel sick. Mechanic can not find any leak. What should I do?
Hi Doritelberg, If the fuel consumption of your vehicle has increased or there is any sign of a misfire, I believe that one of the injectors may be leaking. For fuel leakages on fuel injected vehicles, it is better to check while the engine is running as the fuel line is pressurized in that state. It would be helpful to know if the smell started after a fuel filter was replaced and what other symptoms, if any you are experiencing with your vehicle? Regards John
SOURCE: Gas fumes very strong in car.
need to have checked possibly an injector leaking car is not safe to drive if you have a fuel leak. look in engine compartment and see if you can see a leak
SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Impala exhaust smell
neither one of these would cause gas to leak. sure it is not coolant ? if you think it is gas it is not safe to drive car as it could catch on fire. possible cause would be a leaking injector.
SOURCE: smelling gas
those cars have had numerous problems with leaking fuel injectors, the problem is that its hard to find due to the heat of the engine drying the fuel up before it can make a visible drip or stain. Please address this quickly due to the danger of fires.

vapor recovery system, should clear itself, some liquid fuel got into the vapor system. Avoid topping off the fuel tank.
