Their is a door sensor in your door jam that turns on your lights. If you look in your door jam where information stickers are. You should see a rubber gromet about the 3/4 or a inch long. If you can push that in you have found the door sensor.

Odd are this sensor has gone bad and needs replaced.

Interior lights will not go out, reading advise it says, maybe door switch (one located on each side of door), how do you adjust or make them properly function so the lights go out?

It will not be that at all.. The relay is the faulty item causing this problem. Ford has had this problem on all makes they have with dome and interior lights staying on
Just replace the relay

1998 Ford Taurus under the dash light on the passenger side will not go off, how do I shut it off?

Do all other interior lamps come on and go off when door is open and closed. Check dimmer switch to see if it is turned all the way up for interior lamps.

buy a can of PB BLASTER lubrecant at your local parts store and spray all your door latches and trunk latch really good with it, then open and close each door 10 to 15 times this should free up the door ajar switchs that are stuck

96 taurus wagon interior lights and power windows

just a guess but Id look for a bad chasis ground. I say this cuz the interior light switch for the door is a normally- open - grounding. The test for this theory would be to run a jumper wire from the neg batt terminal to the body, or from the eng to the body/chasis.

Ford 1998 Taurus - interior light stays on

first lets understand that every door has a sensor . and that sensor is in the door latch assembly . and over time this latch gets sticky and needs cleaned.
what i have found is WD40 worked very good for me.
make sure you spray a large amount into each door latch trying to wash out the dirt and dust .
the go around to each door and open and shut them to work in the WD40. and then go around one more time and spray again. this will help remove any thing that has been knocked loose.
then just wipe down your doors . and if the sensor isnt broken your light will work like they should.
good luck
