VOLVO S40 DOESNT START OCCASIONALLY

SOMETIMES THE VOLVO WONT START , TURN THE KEY DOESNT CRANK LET IT SIT AWHILE THEN IT STARTS UP HAPPENS ONCE A WEEK , LIGHTS COME ON RADIO , DOESNT SEEM TO BE A DRAIN ON THE SYSTEM! CHECKED BATT TERMINALS TIGHT .

I can't find the starter. where is it

I have the same problem, and the car has a new battery.

At times it starts fine and runs good; other times when you turn the key...nothing.

I suspect code from computer chip in key not getting to car computer (imobilizer), ignition switch short, starter bad spot, etc.

Intermittent problem. Starts fine and runs good for several days, and then nothing. Sits for a few days and won't start then starts and runs fine for a couple of weeks.

I have a Volvo s40, 2005 non turbo, and the other day it wouldn't start up. all the lights and radio come on, but nothing at all. Not even a clicking sound.l It sounds like a starter solenoid, but not sure. I also tried to jump start it to see if it was the battery...nothing...any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a new battery, it probably isnt running enought cranking amps to start your car, try a different battery and it should start fine

1999 audi a6 wont crank sometimes

Either there is a bad or dirty battery connection which is allowing the lights but no crank or you could have dirty or loose starter wires or starter relay may be bad or ignition is a possibility. All these can be tested with an ohmmeter for power. I would start with connections

Flashing upside down arrow/ slow acceleration

This is a common problem of Volvo S40. You can try this trick to turn off the flashing arrow light.

1) Turn off Engine
2) Turn key to "On" position (Not start the engine), you will see the panel light will on
3) Step on the break paddle
4) Shift the gear from "P" to "L" 10 times
5) Turn key to " Off" position
6) Now you can start the engine.
7) If doesn't work, you can repeat the procedure.

Hope this tick help
Good luck

it is the fuel pump for sure. If you can hit the tank and get it to run it is the pump. this drain back (hard start after sitting) is a fuel pump issue as well
