Question about 2000 Alfa Romeo 156

1 Answer

Motor control system failure constantly on, Had 3 diognostic checks no fault found. I think Lambda sensor wiring is too close to manifold, is this a possibility.

I have the same issue. The MCSF message was coming on intermittantly and went away for a week or so...was originally only getting it on motorway as wife had not noticed it come on during her usual stuff (urban driving).

Car seems to drive normally although I feel it is a bit 'stuttery' when idle but nothing major. Also, don't know if it was me or not. I felt when pushing the car a little (4k revs above) I felt it wasn't it's usual self and a bit sluggish and petrol cusumption seems a little up on the usual.

The light has come on perm this morning and now won't go. Any suggestions welcome before a dealer rips me

What are the symtoms? Does the car drive as normal?

Is it rough on tick over? Is it sore on fuel? Is it hard to start? Does it cut out?

    I need more info.

Possible anyways...error codes showed Cylinder 4 misfire due to low oil (called AA)...topped oil up but still came on, took cylinder four coild off and cleaned (bit foosty looking) and put over cylinder 3...working fine now...

...fingers crossed. Stovie

have throttle body checked also the MDK throttle motor,
make sure that the dealer has followed service bulletin 12 07 99 for procedure to replace the MDK throttle motor
also have them check for codes, here are some codes,
it could be an expensive job, have them check everything,it is most likely the throttle motor,,throttle body is 600 if they switch it,dont let them do it without checking throttle motor,

Volvo Fault Codes

1-2-2 means the sensor in the air inlet duct is disconnected or open.
2-3-1 and 2-3-2 means your o2 sensor has probably failed or possibly is related to the first. If the air sensor fails on a Regina system (square ignition coil on driver's side) then the system, being as dumb as it is, will attempt to put a constant integer in there, computing solely on MAP readings and probably guessing poorly on what the A/F mixture should be. So fix the air sensor first, reset the system, either by disconnecting the battery negative cable and waiting 10 minutes or clearing the codes out by hand.

How to repair the p1646

Looks like Lambda sensor fault,

Fault Code:- P1646 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Computer & Output Circuit area

Fault Description: ECM HO2 Sensor control malfunction -bank 1 upstream (1/1)

Action of ECM:- ECM Default:- HO1S 1/1 control circuit inhibited

After clearing the DTC, complete the Drive vehicle for 10 minutes
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

Possible Fault:- HO2 Sensor 1/1 heater failure HO2 Sensor 1/1 sensing circuit: short circuit to ground, short circuit to high voltage, open circuit ECM Failure

Check engine light comes on after approx. one minute. My code reader gives me a 214 in continuous memory ( cylinder ID circuit failure). I clear the code and it comes back. What is giving me this code?...

look 214 is not a valid code for a 1995 escort, this is an OBD1 system. here is a list of trouble codes for this year of ford no matter the model.

You should find the diagnostic connector under your hood normally by the fender on the battery side. By just using your test light and a jumper wire, it will tell you what kind of problem you got.

Model years 1984-1995 all models of Ford
1. Make sure engine is fully warmed. If in doubt, run engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes.
2. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds for system to shut off. Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).
3. Hook up light and jumper (or a tester if you have one). Turn key to ON (do not start engine). Read the codes.

How to do it?

Example code 23: your test light should flash 2 long consecutive flashes followed by 3 short pulses.

Ford's common codes for OBD1 (vehicles made before 1995)

I have 8000 miles on my Tucson check engine light came on at start up this morning...gas cap is problems?????

there are over 200 reasons for the check engine light to come on, the gas tank cap is just one of them, this light and the problem that turned it on are most likely covered under the federal emission warranty, contact the dealer. see trouble code list below for some of the probelems that cause a check enghine light.

Motor control system failure

Motor control system failure means either 2 things
1 A fault with the ecu
2 A fault with the exhaust and lambda sensors

Checking the fault codes

Yes.  Next to the ash tray there is a black slide off plate that reveals the OBD I plug.  {1996 and newer can be read with an OBD II reader (read for free at Advance auto or Auto Zone)}  Once you reveal this plug on the 1995, you can plug in a single jumper wire (or even a paper clip) in the #4 and #15 pin hole.  There are two rows of pin holes, count from the upper right to the #4, then on to #15 (which will be the second to last pin hole).  Turn the ignition switch on (motor not running), insert the jumper wire for about 3 to 5 seconds, then remove the wire.  The ENGINE LIGHT will flash a hold, then the code, which will go something like this, flash, flash, PAUSE, flash, flash, PAUSE, flash, PAUSE, flash, flash, flash, flash.  Then it will repeat the codes if you just sit there and observe it.  The code in my example would be a 2214 code.
Below are some code I found on a website.  I hope this helps.  Now I ask that you take the time to answer someone elses question.  Lets all share.  Good luck, "Peace through power and knowledge"
