The cylinders are probably washed down with fuel and it doesn't have enough compression to start. You need to also check to see if it is getting ignition spark. There are several thing it may be. The quickest thing you can try is let it sit overnight and then in the morning push the gas pedal to the floor and try starting it to clear flood it if it is not starting due to being flooded and cylinders being washed down with fuel. You should pull out a spark plug and see if its wet with fuel. If it is remove all the plugs and dry them out and maybe squirt a very small amount of oil down each cylinder to help seal the rings to bring up the compression. Do not get carried away with putting oil in the cylinders so you dont hydro lock the engine.
you probably have weak spark or it is flooding due to too high fuel pressure. is the timing good the firing order correct has the cam belt timing slipped, missing teeth. is the cold start injector open all the time.
first, the 1993 cadillac deville should have a throttle body not a carburetor. And, I think it has ported fuel injection to each cylinder with a fuel injector for each cylinder if it's like my 1990 Cadillac Deville.
Usually gas gets in the oil if you are having a hard time starting the vehicle, or turns over for a long period of time before firing. It floods the cylinders and bypasses the rings filling the oil with gas. You may want to change the oil and filter and see if this problem continues. Check your plugs, wires etc.. If it does then your rings may be shot not giving enough compression to the cylinder causing un burnt gas. Try a compression check and see if you have any bad cylinders. Depending on the vehicle 90-160 psi isnt uncommon. If there is a great differential between the cylinders you may have faulty head gasket, bad valves, or just worn rings.
It can be a couple of things. One could be a damaged injector, dumping fuel into the one cylinder, or you could have a faulty plug, not firing, or faulty plug wire or coil pack.I'd start by switching plugs and wires from a good cylinder and running it and seeing if that cured the problem.Hope I could help.
If you filled beyond the stopping point of the handle then you flooded the system with vapor. It should start in time if this is the case.
It could also be a an electrical component failed and will need to be diagnosed to figure out which one.
Change your fuel filter, it may have gone it's life time and is getting to dirty to let fuel flow properly. Your fuel pump to may be getting weak, if the fuel filter is dirty the pump works harder and heats up and could be over heating the fuel pump relay too. The fuel pump relay i believe is in the glove box behind a panel that say relay, there should be (3) in there and the middle one is the fuel pump's. switch then around after you change the fuel filter and if you get a chance, check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve.
Good luck and hope this help's if there is a Auto Zone around you, you can ask to use the fuel pressure gauge to see what fuel pressure you have and they'll have the step by step instructions on how to do it and takes about 5 min to do and will have the fuel filter and step by step to replace that too. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
Sounds like you have a bad vent valve in the gas tank. When you fill the tank gas also fills the emission vapor canister. When you try to start it, the gas is pulled through the canister purge solenoid, flooding the engine. To test this, unplug the canister purge solenoid and see if the problem stops.
was it very cold if so the engine could flooded .The gas will wash the oil of the cylinder walls if flooded. try holding gas peddle to the floor wile trying to start.this cuts the fuel of to the engine.or your timing chain stretches hope this helps
