Question about 1988 Chevrolet S-10

1 Answer

87 S10 proportioner valve.

Alright, you aoutomotive Guru's, maybe you can help me with this.
------------------------------------
I have an 87 S10 2.8 V6 automatic. Front disk, rear drum brakes.
The proportioner valve is leaking. The leak is coming from one of two places. Right where the round threaded piece with the O-ring connects to the main body on the rear of the valve. (one of the lines from the master cylinder hooks up to the rear of this round piece.)
------------------------------------
Now, its eithe coming from around the threaded area, (bad O ring?) or just behind that is a round indention with a small (3/16'' across) rubber disk. This disk has a **** right in the center. (about 1/8'' across)
------------------------------------
I don't know if this **** is supposed to be there, or if thats where my leak is.
------------------------------------
Ive been told that the proportioner valve is hard to find new.
What is this round (brass) device called, and can these be purchased new?
This indention with the round disk is about 1/4'' to 3/8'' from the threads that go into the main valve body.
------------------------------------
Next question. Can this valve be rebuit? Should I try replacing just the O-ring (it looks intact and in fairly decent shape) or are there other iterms to be replaced in addition to the O-ring?

What is the exact location to put a valve assembly brake proportioner for a 2000 pontiac grand prix

Just follow the brake line from the rear towards the front and you will find a 2"(approx) fitting,,,,that's the valve,,,,,sometimes the valve/fittings are rusted, and disturbing the line can create a problem

Which brake line goes to which which wheel from the master cylinder?

Not familiar with this model, but most cars have only one output and one return line to/from the master cylinder. The output line usually goes to a proportioner valve downstream from the master cylinder. This valve applies more pressure sooner to the rear wheels, then to the front. This prevents "fishtailing" when braking hard. If you follow the forward-most line away from the master cylinder, you'll probably encounter a block where this line feeds in and two or four lines feed out. That's the proportioner valve.

On my 1998 buick regal the front passenger caliper has locked up, replaced caliper and brake line. pressure won't release unless you open bleeder. could it br proportioner valve?

Hello: It sounds like the ABS unit is stuck. (I have experienced this) You will have to replace the hydraulic part of the system. (not the module) After replacement you will have to have the system "HOMED" which will require a GM Tech 2 to do it. The proportioning valve is part of the ABS unit.

1997 Chevy S10 Pick up air distribution system not working properly

It sounds like you have a check valve out. These are little plastic inline one way valves about the size of a nickel and maybe 1/2 in thick. They are part of the vehicles vacuum system and they prevent suction loss during system changes. They extremely cheap in the SELF HELP aisle of most auto parts stores. they have a little paper one way diaphragm in then that eventually goes out. Start on the top of your motor around the intake manifold, trace the small rubber hose until you find ine, pull it apart and try blowing in it, if it blows and sucks, than its gone out. It can only do one not the other. good luck
