Question about 1997 Buick Century

Open Question

The turn signals on my 1997 Buick Century are not working

When I turn the turn signal switch, the dash indicators light up but 3 out of the 4 turn signals do not work. I have replaced all of the bulbs and check the fuses, what would my next step be?

Check to see if your 4-way (emergency) flashers work. If they do and your bulbs all light up -- you may have a 2way flasher out.

I had lights on my 94/95 but no flashers on one side. I did have all emergency flashers. So I replaced the 2way and wahlaaa I now won't get stopped for no turn signals.

I'm not sure if yours will be in the same location as mine -- but it took quite an acrobat for me to find it. I was told that when I turned on my 4ways it would help to determine which flasher was which. Problem was I couldn't see them. I could hear the emergency was on the left of the steering column and knew that the 2way was on the right side.

LOOK for a silver flasher that may be CLipped and pushed up and back on the right of the column in vicinity or height of where your kneecap would ride, behind the panel. Hope you find yours easier than mine.

Remove the bulbs one at a time and check for dirt and corrosion at the contacs inside the sockets. The corrosion will cause higher than normal resistence and will make the signal to flash rapidly. As this only happens to the right side only check the right side.

SOURCE: 93 buick century -turn signals

The Buick Century uses separate relays for the hazard warning and turn signal functions. The turn signal relay is located on the accelerator pedal bracket, and the 4-way flasher relay is located on the convenience center near the left kick panel. Try switching these two relays with one another to see if your turn signals work instead of your 4-ways.

SOURCE: Turn signals and 4-way flashers do not work - 1997 Buick Century

Time to change the flasher unit, it's usually close to the drivers side of vehicle and behind a fuse box access panel and will have something like "12v 23/98W " on it. It's a largish cube shaped componant and may be water damaged !

My blinkers sometimes dont work? looked at the fuse and it seemed okay but i replaced it anyway..seemed to work fine for a couple months now its doing it again...could it be an electrical problem or turn...

Try replacing the Flasher Relay. It has 2 relays, one for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. The one for the turn signals is located Front seating area, driver side, under dash, behind instrument panel, mounted on passenger side of steering column.
The hazard flasher is located Front seating area, driver side, under dash, above kick panel, mounted in top of convenience panel.
Replace the Turn signal flasher.

The cause of this may be the turn signal switch, the circuits run through this switch.
