Question about 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

1 Answer

The engline (exhaust light) on in 2004 VW Touareg.

Does it have to be that my catayltic converters are bad?! Please say no!!! Its a 2004 V6 with 84,000 miles on it. I'm in the process of selling it to the highest bidder and I can't afford to replace the cats (was quotesd something like $4,400). What else could it be. I do need an oil change.

Well I know that my catalytic converters are bad the VAG-COM has been run but what I want to know is, could there be anything else that makes the exhaust light come on? I just want some suggestions.

emissionwiz - thanks for the suggestions my hubby will love "running the car ******* the freeway". We are now having another symptom - smelling gas - its not in the cabin of the Touareg but on the outside. Asked hubby if he spilled gasoline - said no - its really strong in the garage. Could this be a new problem or is it related to the exhaust back pressure sensor issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine is the same. Constant exhaust light and no message as the manual says. Do get the gas smell in the garage after pulling in and car sits. Light went out for a while and then came back on. 2004 V8 32K miles. In Colorado high country. (cold climate) crappy ethanol gas too.

Have the test run to see what the issue is.

This is not a check engine light? this is what i found at a owners club site, 1st try running the car hard on the freeway to burn of the carbon that builds up in the particulate filter, next replace the exhaust back pressure sensor, this is not the cats.

Brake Pad Replacement,2004 VW Touareg,V6 instructions

Same as any other vehicle.

1. Raise and support vehicle
2. Remove tire/wheel
3. Loosen/remove the two caliper bolts
4. Slide caliper off the rotor.
5. Use a C-Clamp to depress the caliper piston
6. Remove old pads from caliper
7. Install new pads on caliper
8. Install caliper/tighten caliper bolts
9. Install tire/wheel
10.Lower vehicle
11 Move to next wheel/repeat

Some people take a turkey baster and remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder prior to depressing the caliper piston because it can over flow. If you choose to do that just add the fluid back when finished so it is at its proper level.

yes, you need a piston retract tool for the rear cylinders. rear piston must turn clockwise as it is being retracting.
