Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat
Has anyone experience in replacing the fan/serpentine belt tensioner in a B5, 2002, TDI SE Passat or similar. I was told my a mechanic that is as almost as much work as replacing a timing belt (removing front bumper and radiator etc), although I have read that is possible to do without although the information was vague and may have related to a different engine. If any member has information regarding this could they please let me know as the squeaking makes the car sound like a ageing tractor and is beginning to drive me crazy.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

you need a 15mm wrench use the open end of the wrench and put it on the nipple on the top of the tensioner pulley assembly then push it back it will release the tension enough to slip it off the altenator
