Question about 1999 Chrysler Cirrus

Dome light & reading lights malfunctioning

The dome light will not shut off unless I manually change the setting to off, but while doing so the light flickers. The reading lights are also malfunctioning. Sometimes they will not turn off unless I press and hold the button or press it over and over. The last time I tried they would not shut off at all.

A sincere thank you Dr. Layinlow. I will check out the fuses tomorrow when it's light... Am also having problems with the turn signals, which work almost most of the time, and then refuse to work. Makes me think it's a wiring problem. Have had wiring problems in the past with a Nissan and it cost big $ just to diagnose. If the switch in the dashboard is kaput, must I take out a loan to get it repaired? Many Thanks.

Check your fuses first and make sure everything is grounded like it should be!! If your good there then it sounds like your switch in the dashboard is going faulty

Check the park light fuse before you condemn the headlight switch. Does the dome light come on when door is opened? Can you use the dome light switch on the dash to turn it on and off as well?

How do i get the inside dome light to go off

There should be a switch at the dome light that allows manual or automatic control. The switch may be set to manual.

I would consult a repair shop or buy the service manual and look through the wiring diagrams. If you can't read wiring diagrams and have no testing equipment then it is best left to a repair facility.

Dome lights will not turn off

A manual control has the light on. On some cars, the control that dims and brightens the dash lights also can control the dome light.

The rear cargo light won't turn off. This happened after I replaced a rear turn signal tail light bulb and a fuse for the horn. (These went out at the same time.) When the blinker light and horn were...

Hello! The instigator of this problem appears to be the the rear cargo lamp; Official name is rear dome light. You'll need a multimeter set on the X10 ohm scale to shoot this trouble. Leave the rear dome light bulb out. There are two switches involved; #1 the rear dome light on/off. #2 the right hand front door switch.

Pull the horn fuse out, remove the rear dome light cover, drop the rear dome light down to access the wiring and close all doors on the vehicle. Connect one lead of the ohm meter to the white wire and the other to body ground. If you read any resistance one or both of the two switches (dome light switch or right hand front door switch) is remaining closed when all doors are closed. Next disconnect the black lead from the dome light switch and see if reading changes to zero. If it does this is indicating that the dome light switch is defective. If it does not, disconnect the right hand door switch and take another reading at the same location. If you still measure any resistance, the black wire of the rear dome light is shorted to ground, if not then the right hand door switch is the culprit.

The reason the right hand door switch and not the left hand door switch is involved is the fact that opening the left front door would turn on the front dome light as well as the rear light. If both dome lights are staying on with all doors closed I would then involve both door switches in this test procedure. If your vehicle is a four door model then disconnect one door switch at a time while performing this test procedure.

The horn fuse also supplies power to the rear dome light, and I suspect the two events are related.

Dome lights won't turn off

Been having a problem with the dome lights on a 99 chevy blazer. Still can't figure out what the problem is. There is a dome light overide button located under the dimmer wheel. When I push the overide button in the dome light goes off, but when I open any of the doors the dome light will not come on. When the overide button is out the dome light stays on all the time and will not turn off even though every door is closed. I checked all the pushbuttons and everything tests good. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?
