When travelling at around 50mph the engine has a shudder, when i accellerate it goes away but is always around the same speed when it happens.

I had the same problem, and after investigation i found the egr valve pipe to be split in two places. bought new one from jag dealer £73.27. fitted it and problem solved. i had black smoke pourring out from the exhaust, poor mpg and poor acceleration . now it is sorted hope this helps. boovie

My XJ6 4.0 does this, its trying to change gears but rev/road speed is not quite right.think its a fault with a lot of jags as other i have driven give the same sensation.do the usual and check oil level in g/box ,if ok then drive at 45mph or 55mph
