I need to know if it is normal to have aprox 1 Amp drawn when battery is first reconnected for about 1 min. I'm trying to determine if there is a reason for a dead battery after it is not driven for a few days. I'm prepared to buy a new battery but want eliminate an electrical system fault before the new battery is installed. Pulling F7 (in batt junct bx) stops the drain.
1 amp over an extended period (like overnight) is an excessive draw, and would drain the battery in a few days. What happens after the one minute? Does it continue to draw, or is that as long as you checked it?
If fuse F7 is the ignition off draw (IOD), then you are on the right track. The IOD serves to feed the computer's keep alive memory, the radio presets, the clock, and the alarm system. But the draw is measured in milli-amps. About 200 milli-amps or less is normal (and that is 0.2 amps), and that would not drain the battery in such a short time.
I would have a shop check this out with an ammeter and a device called a Shunt Bar. Ask for a battery drain test, or an off-draw test; well, explain your problem and have them check for too much current being used when everything is shut off.
Good luck.

If you need to change a fuse, you can read the max current indication on the old one...

Disconnect battery ground for 30 seconds & reconnect. Light should be out unless you have deeper diagnostic problem. Charging system good Battery good. This action should reset trouble light. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply montehammons. The draw is for less than 30 sec then it drops to zero on my DVM. I suspected it was the on-board computer rebooting and going to sleep but can't be there to watch for a recurrence. Fuse 7 was reported to feed multiple systems ... so no clues there. I have the battery on charge overnight disconnected from the negative cable. I'll take it off charge tomorrow and let it stand disconnected to see if it drops down while disconnected. I suspect it is bad and will get a new one this weekend.
Good idea. You got the ball in your court My internettt messnn
