Question about 2006 Ford Taurus
My engine lite is usually on. when i take it to the mechanic, he smokes the car and tries to see where the smoke leaks out. He decided it was an emissions problems and replaced the vacuum hoses. Now the lite is back on after only about an hour of driving around doing errands. This has happened before. Car runs great, but the engine lite stays on. What to do?
If you want to find out why the check engine light is on you need a tool called.. OBDII Diagnostic Scanner,
it is around 30 bucks and cheaper on auction sites, . all cars made after 96 have this feature
your db port is below your drivers side dash you will find the connector, plug in the odbll scan tool, turn on your car. the code or codes will come up as 4 digit numbers then you simply get a ford tuarus service manual (chilton) at a auto parts store and compare the codes it will tell you excatly what sensor is giving you trouble.. it saves you time and money cuase you wont be guessing or exchanging parts that are still good.then anytime your check engine light goes on you will know why..
good luck hope this helps

I believe that the mechanic that you took your car to probably cleared the service code making the light go out. Since the problem was not fixed by whatever he did the light came back on. I suggest taking the car to either Autozone or other such parts store where they will usually read the code for you for free, and tell you what it means and what needs to be replaced. it is possible that there is a bad sensor.
