How can i test brake light with the paper clip?

Im the one with the mercury villager 2000, who skip8303 replied to. I tried, but can't figure out how to test the brake light with the paper clip (I'm a girl) Can you explain in detail???

When you uplug the wires there two wires take the paper clip bend the so it looks like a... U.... so you can plug it into the wires you took off...when you plug the clip into the wires then check to see if the brake lights come on.... all the paper clip does is make a connecton from one wire to the other wire ...hopes this helps

I have a 2000 Mercury Villager and the fuses for the turn signals and brake lights keep blowing. Why?


A burning smell is an important symptom of something VERY WRONG. Get it towed to a repair shop, and get them to trace the wiring harness.

You have to take the Inside Panel off, disconnect the Rods and then remove the Clip.

Reassemble

TEST BEFORE YOU PUT the panel back on

1998 mercury villager back brake lights do not work. New bulbs and fuse did not fix the problem.


Why would you change a perfectly good fuse or bulbs &
then expect something good to happen ?

You have to learn how to test all things in life

Have you moved on to the brake light switch by the
brake pedal arm?

this is a wiring connection problem at alternator I think. Go here and read files

I have a 1999 mercury Villager . I was adjusting the brake light switch by the brake pedal and i notice another switch controlled by the foot pedal. What does this switch control? Thanks.

the deactivator switch (deactivates cruise control when you tap brake pedal) and brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connectors.

Tail lights work, but brake lights do not???


you can try the brake light switch.. it is located under dash ..follow the brake pedal up you will see a switch ... unplug wires and use a paper clip or piece of wire to to jump... if brake light comes on replace switch.....
