so the dealer has checked it out and tells me it needs a new trans. no surprise there. said it was the reverse clutch inside the trans. the fluid and filter are supposedly lifetime...no changing or cleaning rqrd. ever. $4500 is the cost. any new comments out there? thanks

I have the exact same problem with 02 Jetta Wagon at 75K miles! Did you do the transmission work? Was the problem solved?

Sounds like the pump is weak, or the filter in transmission is almost stopped up. either way not enough fluid pressure to torque converter. If it was me I would have the fluid changed and a new filter installed. In all of my dealings with transmissions 80% of the time once they are messing up it is too late. sometimes when you change the fluid once it is acting up it gets worse. that is just a risk you have to take though because the outcome will be the same more than likely

2002 JETTA TDI - AIR BAG LIGHT ON DASH. FUSE OR MAJOR PROBLEM OR? WHAT FUSE???

not a fuse ,its a fault and for this you will need to take it to a garage to have the software read and reset ,most likely cause is the wiring connections under the front seats ,disconnect battery then unplug these connections and clean and rub with a soft black lead pencil and see what happens ?? it may go off

I am looking for the reverse light switch on my 2002 TDI with an automatic transmission. I have looked at several posting, but they all seem to be standard transmissions. Any idea when it is located on...

Hi, I think the reverse switch is integral to the park/neutral switch. I'm looking at that switch, and it has too many pins for a plain park/neutral switch. See below.

Should a 2002 jetta tdi- automatic at 87,000 miles

That specific transmission is known for failure. Sometimes it's premature failure (in your case) and sometimes they have 150k miles, but that specific automatic transmission will always fail.
There are plenty of stories online about premature failure of the 01M VW transmission...

Sometimes our 2002 Jetta brakes squeak terribly especially on inclines and upon applying slow pressure. Happens in reverse too. Were told brakes are 75%.

this could be a nummber of things starting with copper grease on the back of the pads to a loose fixing spring on the calliper or if it only happens in the morning and in the cold or at the last few meters of a sopt when you are easyin up on the breaks this could be normal on certain cars due to the metal shavings in the break pads being over sized (cheap break pads) i suggest if you have mechanical knowledge you should remove callipers and copper grease the back of the pads and make sure all the clips and springs are in tack and tight if this still dose not stop it then you should invest in more upmarket break pads
hope this helps

2000 jetta does not shift into reverse

is this going from park?? if so, it could be the module inside the cover where the shifter is...this is the piece that tells the shifter when the brake is pressed and allows it to shift.... check that out and let me know if u have anything else....

2001 jetta tdi automatic transmission will not shift into high ge

My 2002 Jetta TDI will not always go into reverse. When this happens I put it in 1st then back to reverse and many times it goes right in reverse. It happens whether it is cold or warmed.
