Question about 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

Runaway idle on my 1988 Honda Accord

The mechanic says the carbs on this year were bad. He wants to do a new carb w/an adaptor kit, instead of a rebuild. Anyone else have this problem? The throttle is stuck wide open. It diesels when I turn it off, but it doesn't want to stop running. I have to put it in gear to choke it out. Ideas?

I've seen on some models of the accords, the secondary butterfly's on the carb will stick open, and this will a high idle. this could happen if the secondary's are not used enough. try that

Have a 1988 accord. Engine idles real high rpm (4-5k) It is a carb'd model. I replaced the carb with one from a junk yard. Just can't get the rpm down.

even with a use carb you should have had it reconditioned before installing it, and also replace the spacer gasket , other wise you are fighting a lost cause

Should be an idle adjusting screw on the side of the carburator that you can adjust to move your idle down.

hello if this is carburated look inside the carburator front inside at the wall look for crack or cracks on the inner walls check all hoses for cracks dried rubber you can usually find exterior vacuum leaks with a can of carb cleaner lightly spraying around base of carb but extreme caution has to be taken when doing if your not that experienced i wouldnt advise this if your car is equiped with tps sensor check for possible out of range sensor goodluck
