Question about 1999 Chevrolet Suburban
I was parked and my car (chevrolet suburban 1999) was idling when i heard a weird noise. the noise was like a grinding and a few squeaks. i immediatly turn the vehicle off when i seen smoke coming out of the hood. so i let it sit a while about ten minutes and drove it to the nearest gas staion and i didnt hear anything again but i notice the heat was off. when i turn the heat on. thats is when i heard a grinding, and squeaking noise coming from inside the car (chevrolet suburban 1999). when i raise the hood, there was smoke and few sparks coming off the ?pulley? that rotates the belt. then the smoke increased. i turned the heat off and the problem seem to go away but i could still smell burning smoke.
Sounds like the a/c compressor clutch is shot. this should only engage if the defrost past of the heat is on. you will need to replace compressor. for now if you want to "unplug" compressor wire connector so it wont engage, that will be ok temporarily

The smoke is coming from the belt because a part has stopped turning ...you need to check which one it is... it could be the water pump...alternator ..a/c compressor...... power steering pump or the belt tensioner.... and your going to need a new belt
