Question about 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Smoke around belt and sparks on Pulley holding belt

I was parked and my car (chevrolet suburban 1999) was idling when i heard a weird noise. the noise was like a grinding and a few squeaks. i immediatly turn the vehicle off when i seen smoke coming out of the hood. so i let it sit a while about ten minutes and drove it to the nearest gas staion and i didnt hear anything again but i notice the heat was off. when i turn the heat on. thats is when i heard a grinding, and squeaking noise coming from inside the car (chevrolet suburban 1999). when i raise the hood, there was smoke and few sparks coming off the ?pulley? that rotates the belt. then the smoke increased. i turned the heat off and the problem seem to go away but i could still smell burning smoke.

Most likely AC clutch assembly. Have it checked & unplug wires to it, if necessary, to use temporarily, so that clutch doesn't engage.

I hear loud noise when I turn on air conditioner in my 2001 Chevy Suburban, it only makes noise when I accellerate or push gas in park. No noise when I am idled. But air blows cold still.

Check for wear or other faults all of the following: The belt, fan clutch, Check A/C compressor&clutch for damage. Check A/C compressor for damaged or faulty temperature switch switching compressor off and on too rapidly, or low oil level.Check A/C hoses for metal A/C Lines vibrating against other components under the hood, or faulty blower motor bushings. I was driving 2003 suburban I had my a/c going when i shut off the engine i heard a strange whistling noise now my engine sqeaks, could it be from the belts?

might be, you will have to start vehicle lift hood and watch your belts, if they are jumping then they are loos, a pulley maybe going out, also. look at all the pulleys if one is wobbling then it needs replaced. Hope this helped Tim

I have a 1999 chevy suburban that has a squeek that sounds like a belt slipping. I have changed all the pulleys and belt except for the pulley on the front of the water pump. The sound gets louder as I...

Being careful not to get tangled in the belt, use a long screwdriver or other lng piece of metal and touch each part that is being turned by the pulleys (water pump, alternator etc. hold the other end to your ear. When you find one that is noisy, that one likely has a bearing going bad. So, if the noise is at the alternator, change it etc. (all parts make some are looking for the one making a lot of noise)

How do u change a loose pulley on a 1994 chevrolet

should be a single bolt in the center of it be sure to remove belt first so that there is no tension left on pulley. if this pulley is the belt tensioner it has a pin in the back that sits into a hole upon installation.

99 Chevy Malibu belt chirping noise problem.

one or more of the pulley's is defective, most likely the tensioner pulley, but check them all for wear and side to side movement which indicates a worn bearing, this causes the belt to not run true and chirp.
